Posted By Sobering Funeral Chapel On November 11, 2023 @ 1:13 pm In Obituaries | 4 Comments

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rudolph Ernest Richter on November 9, 2023, at the age of 96.

He is pre-deceased by his wife, Doreen Mary (nee Snowdy) in 2009, as well as his son Robert Fredrik (Bobby) in 1983 and his sister Gwendolyn Victoria Sinclair in 2022.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Don (Erin), David (Suzi); by his grandchildren, Megan (Chris), Madison (Brent) and Mark, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Ernie was born in Golden Bay and was raised in Seven Sisters Falls.  He was employed by the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Company, working at several locations across Canada including Goose Bay, Labrador and Lynn Lake, Manitoba where he first met Doreen, his future wife.

Ernie and Doreen married in 1955 and moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family. Ernie had a 35 year career with Canada Safeway, retiring in 1991.  Ernie loved sports and loved to play golf.  He loved the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays.  Throughout his retirement Ernie remained very active.

Many thanks to the staff at the Vista Park Personal Care Home for all the care and compassion they showed towards our father and many thanks to Gord for his unending support and friendship.

As per Ernie’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date.

Condolence from Virginia Kubish on November 12th, 2023 5:49 pm

My sincere condolences to Ernies’ sons and their families. I worked for Ernie at CaNADA SAFEWAY at the Academy Store for about 3 years (approx. 1963 t0 1966) , remember sleeping at a customers house, as there were no buses running, so whoever got to work that morning, just stayed at work for the whole weekend. He was very pleasant to work with and treasure every beautiful memory made n years gone by. May he Rest In Peace.

Saddened to hear of Ernie’s passing although a blessing. I met Ernie many years ago through Safeway. Enjoyed coffee & great conversation many times with him at McDonald’s in Southdale & Sunday breakfast at Salisbury House, all after retirement. A great person!
My condolence to all his family.
