October 2, 1923 – March 15, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Jean Beznoski, in the early morning of March 15, 2024, at her residence of Luther Home in the company of her children.

Mom was born October 2, 1923, in the R.M. of Kreuzburg (Komarno area), Manitoba, and left home at the young age of 14 to help out with family finances and to begin her adult journey.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her three (3) children, Lorraine (Terry), Barry (Philomena), and Shirley (Ken); grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Barry Jr. and Robyn; and great grand daughter, Chloe.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Wasylena Prysizney (nee Bereziuk), and by her husband, Walter; brothers, Walter, Bill, and Alex; and sisters, Anne Barbolak and Stella Winzinowich.

To us she was Mom, but to most every one else she was Jeanie.  She worked in several vocations during her early life in Winnipeg, was a mother and homemaker residing in the town of Lac du Bonnet, and in her latter years of residing in Lac du Bonnet, was an employee of the Surfside Restaurant, a job that she truly loved and a job that loved her back.  She worked at Surfside for a good many years until she retired and moved back to Winnipeg.

Mom was a good mom . . . a wonderful mom.   She loved her life in Lac du Bonnet, she loved socializing with her many friends, she loved her long telephone chats, she loved her garden, she loved berry picking, she loved her home made soups, she loved her flowers, and mom loved her family.

When back in Winnipeg, mom resided in the same residence for 38 years and for the past eight (8) years was a resident of Luther Home.   A warm endearing thank you to the caring staff at Luther Home for looking after mom, and a special thank you for the wonderful Celebration of Life 100 Year Birthday Event this past October, her final birthday.   Any donations in mom’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E, Beausejour; interment to follow thereafter in the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery, 280 Smith Road.

Diane, It’s so nice to read your kind words.
Yes, she is with our dad now and that does make us feel a bit better.
We had her for many years and now she is with dad, her parents and all her siblings.
Thank you Diane from all the family.

Thank you Sheila. Over the wonderful years I spent knowing you I recognized several similar traits that both you and my mom had and it always made me smile when you would say or do something and I would silently think to myself . . . “Yep.” Yesterday was a beautiful reminiscent day for the entire family.

My Condolences to your family on the loss of your mom and Grandma. Jean was definitely a wonderful friend and worker at the Surfside Restaraunt, we all missed her when she retired, but she did come to visit us when able to. Our thoughts are with you all❤️

Condolence from Shirley Beznoski on March 22nd, 2024 8:43 am

Hi Diane . . . Thank you for sharing your thoughts about mom. I, myself, worked at Surfside as well during the late 1960’s, along side my mom. She’s resting peacefully now, reunited with our dad and she can finally “take a deep breath” for a life well done.
