Edward Christoph Hiller went to be with his beloved Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday February 8th after a brief illness, 1 month short of his 93rd birthday. His greatest wish since “my blondie” left him in 2022 was to join her in their eternal heavenly Home. Dad will be deeply missed by his 5 children and children-in-love Christel & Leonard Mueller, Wally & Maureen Hiller, Martin & Pam Hiller, Allan & Charlene Hiller, and Monika & Yesupadam Paidipamula. Opa and Great-Opa will be forever missed by his 54 adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward Hiller is survived by his only sister Lottie (Stoiber), his brothers Arno (Renate), Willy, Arthur (Annegret), and Bruno, as well as by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. He is predeceased by his parents Christoph and Elsie (Trenkel) Hiller, his step-“Mother” Hulda, 5 siblings in infancy, and his brother Leo.

Edward Christoph Hiller was born in Sepno, Poland to German parents on March 14th, 1931 as the 6th born child, yet became the eldest of his family as none of first 5 lived past the age of five. After him 1 sister and 3 brothers were born to his mom, and then 2 brothers to his step-mom. After the untimely death of his parents, Edward worked hard in Germany and at the age of 19 immigrated to Canada alone. He later helped his step-mom “Mother” and all his siblings come over to Canada for a better life.

In August 1955, by divine intervention, he met his blondie Agnes Broek in Oldenburg, Manitoba, and immediately knew she was the one. They fell in love, were engaged on New Year’s Eve, and were married on July 21st, 1956. After a few years of working odd jobs, Edward and Agnes finally settled their growing family on a dairy farm 1 mile east of Whitemouth, where they lived for almost 30 years teaching their family a strong work ethic and love for God while attending Whitemouth Baptist Church.

For the next 6 years before retirement, from 1990-1996, Edward and Agnes attended Mission Baptist Church in Winnipeg and were the caretakers of Mission Baptist apartments where they lovingly served the elderly, always going the extra mile to help those in need. After retiring in 1996, they moved to William Ave. West and attended Cross Church, living there happily for 20 years while enjoying visits from their children, grand-children and ever growing amount of great-grandchildren who were the delight of their lives. They even made trips to Croatia and India to visit 2 of their children, missionaries in those nations.

In 2016, Edward and Agnes moved to Stony Plains Terrace apartments in Beausejour and attended Elim Baptist Church, while enjoying the years together closer to family until Agnes went to her heavenly Home on July 17th, 2022. Edward’s fondest memories were reading the Bible after breakfast each morning, and holding hands and praying together throughout the day. They were inseparable and although there were a number of hospital stints over the years, they were always side by side through thick and thin. For the past 1 1/2 years Dad lived with his eldest daughter Christel and son-in-law Leonard Mueller, who lovingly cared for him along with the rest of the family through thick and thin until God called him Home.

As the children of Edward and Agnes Hiller, we are beyond grateful that our parents showed us their unending love and commitment to each other and to God, and that they left a wonderful legacy of love and prayer to be passed down to each generation to come. We will always remember our Dad for his loving devotion to Jesus and his family, his abundant generosity and faithful service to others, his integrity and hard work ethic, his funny sayings, and his endless supply of Werthers candies, twizzlers and pistachios to hand out to everyone he met. His biggest smiles were when he saw his grand-children and great-grand children, and no one, young or old, ever left his presence without some goodies in their hands and pockets.

DAD, OPA, GREAT-OPA…WE DON’T KNOW HOW WE WILL LIVE WITHOUT YOU AND MOM, OMA, GREAT-OMA, BUT WE ARE THANKFUL YOU ARE BOTH TOGETHER AND PAIN FREE, EXPERIENCING NEVER ENDING PEACE AND JOY WITH JESUS IN HEAVEN.

A celebration of the life of Edward Christoph Hiller will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 14th at Elim Baptist Church, 645 James Ave, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0. Lunch will be immediately after the service in the church basement, and interment to follow at Whitemouth Fellowship Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elim Baptist Church Missions for the work of Encountering Hope Ministries based in Winnipeg and Love-N-Care Ministries based in India.

Our family would like to thank all the precious family and friends who were a loving part of Edward and Agnes Hiller’s lives over the years. They deeply valued each friendship and every visit. God bless all of you, and “Essen night vergessen”!

Condolences for the family of “Edward Christoph Hiller”

Condolence from Shawna Perron on February 13th, 2024 8:29 pm

We will always cherish our time with Eddie our neighbor on William Avenue. We enjoyed our midnight snacks he would give us. Our favourite memory is Eddie sharing his stories with us a light meal and praying together. I am grateful for his humility and kindness each time I saw him.

Condolence from Edmund Amman on February 13th, 2024 11:48 pm

Our deepest condolences from Ed & Ruth Amman. I will always remember how generous and caring your father was. Up until recent years he would phone me on my birthday or tell my mom to pass on Birthday Greetings. As a small boy whenever we came out to the farm or your parents would drop in to visit my parents he would always give me a quarter (which back in the sixties would buy me a drink & a bag of chips).
And even visiting your parents in Stoney Plains he would pick up KFC and send us home with some candy treats. We will always have fond memories of my God Father Uncle Eddie.

Sincere Condolences Christel and Leonard and all of the Hiller Family, upon the the passing of a wonderful Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather. Ed and Agnes were my neighbours at Stony Plains, and I still miss them, as they were always so friendly and we had many visits and yes, they thoroughly enjoyed their visits from their Grandchildren and families and he loved having his goodies on hand for them and he shared them with many of the residents at StonyPlains. He is now with Agnes and has left a very lovely family they both raised , who will now have two special Angels watching over them. May he Rest In Peace.

Condolence from John Howson on February 14th, 2024 10:53 am

Dear Hiller Family:

We knew your Dad and Mom from Cross Church in Winnipeg. We loved them and visited them in Beausejour. We were always impressed with their love for Jesus and for His cause in Missions.
May the Lord comfort you.

John and Ruth Howson
