June 18, 2003 ~ October 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved son, Alejandro Junio Clarke, at the tender age of 20.

Left with cherished memories are his loving parents Jim and Lucie Clarke; abuelita Corina Moscoso of Venezuela; godparents Gustavo Kammerer and Alejandra Baez; uncles and aunts: Phil and Margie Clarke, Susan Clarke, Debbie Schulte, Arturo Moscoso; cousins Daniel Moscoso, Rodriguez- Milliet, Rodriguez -Zambrano, Provenzano- Rodriguez, Rodriguez-Sanchez, Saez- Rodriguez, Margarita, Moscoso Family of Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, Noel and David; and many extended cousins, family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Cyril and Agnes Clarke; and abuelito Junio Moscoso.

Alejandro was born on June 18, 2003, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He attended Canterbury Park daycare, St. Joseph’s the Worker Catholic School, Arthur Day Middle school and Murdoch McKay Collegiate, which he graduated from in 2021.  These establishments helped mold Alejandro into the person he was and were pivotal in creating long-lasting relationships, most of which still exist today.

He was an aspiring writer, actor, director, and chef.  He had many interests and hobbies that let his creativity flourish.  He had a passion for food – a regular workday meal at home prepared by him made you feel as though you were eating in a 5-star restaurant, and his passion and knowledge of the movie industry was unprecedented. His long-term goal was to combine his two passions and become the next Anthony Bourdain!  From an early age his interests became apparent, from kindergarten he could identify classical music and who the composer was, he could tell you the name of a painting and who the artist was, and still tell you all the characters from SpongeBob Square Pants! As he grew older, his interest in theatre and movies began to flourish. He could tell you who wrote, acted in, and directed movies like Lawrence of Arabia, Casablanca, and Gone with the Wind. Once he became a teenager, he joined the Manitoba Theatre for Young People. Here he began to foster his acting skills and began writing and directing, eventually creating his first short film called “Open Wounds”.

Alejandro was a welcoming and humble person.  He had the biggest heart and was always willing to help others first. No matter how he felt inside, he would always try to make others feel relaxed with his quick wit and sense of humor.  He had a strong moral compass and showed immense compassion and empathy for others and had a sense of justice to treat others equally.

With his final act of kindness, and as a testament to who Alejandro was, his last gift to others was the gift of organ donation.  We hope and pray that Alejandro’s empathy, spirit, and compassion lives on in others.  It comforts his parents to know that Alejandro’s heart is beating on with someone who needed a new lease on life – making a miracle out of a tragedy.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Owen Mooney of the ICU in St. Boniface Hospital and Harry Reich, Alejandro’s nurse.  The care and compassion you showed to Alejandro and his parents, Lucie and Jim, was unprecedented.

Donations can be made in Alejandro’s name to St. Boniface Hospital.

Viewing and prayers will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel; 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour, MB, prior to cremation.  Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street, Winnipeg, MB.

Alejandro was a wonderful person to know, and he was so clever with cameras. We made a couple films together at MTYP. The world won’t be the same without him.

Condolence from Aurora on October 22nd, 2023 12:00 am

One of the only people to make highschool a memorable experience for me. I genuinely looked forward to waking up and coming in to history class first period to sit behind/next him and goof around. We were always smiling and laughing together. We lost touch after highschool but he reached out to me sept 25 to talk. We talked for 2 hours and I learned so much about him and was eager to reconnect. I’m so sad that that time never came. I looked forward to being his friend again as he was easily the funniest and kindest person I knew. I never thought the loss of a friend from hs would affect me so much so I truly can’t imagine what the family must be going through and for that I offer my deepest condolences. Your son was a great person and the world will miss him dearly.

Condolence from Kianna on October 23rd, 2023 10:41 pm

My school experience was not kind to me growing up, making friends was something I couldn’t do. I saw the difference in how people treated me versus how they treated others, but not with Alejandro. He was one of the first people to show me kindness and friendship. He treated me with respect that I had never seen before. For one of the few times in my life I felt like I had made a friend. Alejandro had such a kindness about him that I never had to worry about him judging, or viewing me as any different from anyone else. He gave me laughter and happiness during a time there was none in my life. I will always remember the jokes we shared together. I remember goofing around in class, laughing so hard we had to be separated to actually get work done. I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life. Whenever he spoke in class it always got my attention as I knew it was going to be something funny that made going to school worth it. I will never forget the friend he was to me, one of the kindest souls the world has ever seen. Jandro, I hope you rest peacefully, I hope your pain is at ease, I hope your family can heal, we all will miss you, save a seat in heaven. One of the coolest kids I ever knew.

It is always heartbreaking when you hear of a former students passing. Especially when it is one you can remember fondly like it was yesterday. Alejandro was in my homeroom at Arthur Day. I loved his sense of humour and the way we joked around. I taught him drama as well and he was so talented! My favourite memory was when I’d bellow his name and roll that R in his name for attendance. He’s one of those memorable students that touched my heart. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.
