Elva Martin

Posted By Sobering Funeral Chapel On February 21, 2024 @ 5:09 pm In Obituaries | 21 Comments

Peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 with her family by her side, Elva Martin passed away at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home.

Elva was predeceased by her husband Roy of 56 years in 2012.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Diane (Elmer), David (Sandy) and Brenda (Andy).  Mom enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Adam (Melanie), Quinn (Chelsea) and Cole who were the light of her life.

After completing secretarial school, Mom was employed by Kramer Tractors in Saskatoon.  Later Mom and Dad moved to Manitoba to farm in Lowland where they raised their three children and made many happy family memories.  Mom started her career as a homecare worker in 1984.  She loved taking care of her clients until her retirement at the age of 80 but continued to provide loving care for Dad.

Mom enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, games, cards and keeping up with current events.  She was known for her sharp wit.  She retained her skill in shorthand, and we were amazed at her proficiency with this skill well into her 90’s.  Mom enjoyed spending time with the family pets.

Mom also loved spending time in nature at the Daylily Garden and at garden centers.  Many happy family memories were made on camping trips across Canada. A highlight was an Alaskan cruise with family and friends where Mom and Dad celebrated their 46th Anniversary.

On behalf of Mom, the family wishes to thank the staff at the Shamrock Unit of East Gate Lodge for the loving care given to Mom.  You were truly her Angels.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.

Donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Cheryl,
Thank-you for your condolence. I too have fond memories of our time as kids in Lowland. Summer days, biking on the country roads, hanging out with friends, such as your family, the Lefkos and others. I do at times miss the old farm and even the work involved,
It was odd I actually thought of you Cheryl in early February just wondering how you, Darryl and Lori were doing.
