William “Bill” Rosentreter

October 16, 1923 to July 11, 2011

It is with great sadness that the Rosentreter family announces the passing of our beloved Father, Husband, Grandpa and Great Grandpa from Pine Falls, Manitoba.

It had only been twenty two days since we lost Mom, Dad’s soul mate for almost sixty five years of marriage.  His heart was broken and his wish was to be together with her again – Dad, we know you are with Mom now.

Dad is predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis, the centre of his world.   Stoic Father to sons Allan (Donna), Jack (Heather) and Kurt (Shannon). Dad warmed in the bright glow of being surrounded by his five spirited granddaughters Rieva (Andy) McCuaig, Kelly (Ryan), Katie, Chloe, Kira and one beaming great grandson Kieran.

Dad taught us life lessons that will forever live on in our hearts and minds.  The strong, silent type, Dad was the guiding light, voice of reason and the firm hand raising three headstrong boys.  Later in life, the same man was the soft voice and gentle hand to five admiring and learning granddaughters, as he nourished them with stories, his guitar and endless amounts of patient time.  For more than 30 years, Dad worked hard in a career with Abitibi Price in Pine Falls, garnering the respect and admiration of a family that he and Mom raised and put through school.  Dad’s unwavering commitment, diligent work ethic, honesty, ethical behavior, strength, passion and fairness were pillars of his character that we will always respect, admire and honour.

Dad’s retirement was deserved and on his terms.  He and Mom continued to live in the town of Pine Falls surrounded by lifelong friends that they truly loved.  Playing cards on Saturday night in the kitchen with friends or yakking about kids in the gazebo with relatives from the Heinkel, Rosentreter, Luy and other families of close relatives, was always time Dad looked forward to.   Dad’s spirited passion for taking up golf was a lesson to us about what is possible after age 70 when you have a positive spirit.  And Dad’s ability to recover from paralysis due to a stroke after age 80 left us truly amazed at his willpower.  Dad, you will forever be the bean-bag game champ at our family get-togethers that we promise will live on in your and mom’s memory.  You were a remarkable man to us and you will be our hero for all time.

The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Pine Falls Hospital for their dedication, passion and kindness in helping Dad.

A celebration of Dad’s and Mom’s life occured on August 19, 2011, at the Pine Falls United Church at 2:00 p.m.

Donations in Dad’s memory can be made to the Pine Falls General Hospital, The Parkinsons Association of Canada or a charity of your choice.

Dad, we will always love you and remember you.

Rosentrator family, our sincere condolenses to the family in the recent passing of your mother and father. Joanne worked with Phyllis at The Bay for several years and we always enjoyed meeting with them in Pine Falls on our visits there. They were a great couple and their passing is a great loss to their family and friends. God Bless.

Allan, Jack and Kurt, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I can’t help but think back during my early years in Pine Falls, and the many get togethers we had with your Mom and Dad. I have fond memories of your Dad as he sang and played the piano (he didn’t just play guitar). Will see you on the 19 th.

Bill and Phyllis were one of those couples that made Pine Falls a very special place to grow up. They raised their family with integrity and were parents that made a difference. Their legacy is a living one on earth and their new life has begun. The power of unseen is always greater than the seen. My most sincere regards to the whole family.
