May 27, 1940 ~ February 23, 2017

It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Walter Kuz on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Pinawa Hospital at the age of 76.

Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years Frances; children Ellen (Lester), Darin (Colleen), Alison (Garry) and Ryan (Lindsay); grandchildren Nolan, Erin, Shannon, Joel and Darien; sister Lena; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Wally was born in Gimli, MB and grew up on the family farm.  He moved to Rennie at the age of 12 when the family purchased the Rennie Hotel.  Growing up, he went to school in Whitemouth and in his spare time enjoyed playing pool, baseball, hockey, curling, fishing and hunting.  He also enjoyed collecting coins which started with his father and continued until his last days.  He loved spending time with family and friends and was proud to be from the little town of Rennie.

Wally worked in the hotel with his family for many years.  He became postmaster of Rennie, and was proud of being the youngest in Canada to hold that position, and held it for almost 50 years.  He was also a highway traffic inspector for the province and worked for 20 years at the West Hawk Lake Scale.

Dad was a man who lived life simply and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.  His greatest source of pride was his children and grandchildren.  He considered himself a very rich man because of his close and loving family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Walter’s memory to Canadian Diabetes Association or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB.

Dear Fran &’Family…….it is with great shock and sadness that I hear about my friend Wally.
Going back to the sixties when we all met, we managed to keep our friendship strong
Until now. Before the passing of Richard in 2009, we spent our summers at the hotel.
And there are many memories of all the good times we had together. Wally and you were
like brother and sister to us and we had a unique friendship. I will miss all the weekly
phone calls to Wally but know he is free of pain and in a better place. Fran, I will continue
our phone calls and hope you find strength in the challenge you have ahead.
Love you Fran,
Carol…..Sherwood Park, Alta

I first met Wally in the late 1980s when I was a young lad starting my career in banking. Wally was a breath of fresh air & his approach to life & work blended hilarity and common sense. He told countless stories about life in Rennie, Manitoba and those stories almost always ended with how Franny would make things right! She was indeed the most important person in his life- through thick and thin! Wally cherished his family and the community of Rennie. I last saw Wally 7 years ago and we had a marvelous visit at Wally’s place- The Rennie Hotel. From what I knew of Wally, his was a life well lived. Rest in Peace from an old friend – JP.
