February 14, 1923 ~ February 2, 2022

On a cold crispy morning, our beautiful mother Violet slipped away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family, just the way she wanted it. Mom was two weeks shy of her 99th birthday.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son George (Gisele), her daughter Wendy (Robert), her ten grands, Dan (Sarah), Vincent (Dana), Jordan (Kay), Amber (Darren), Holly (Victor), Troy, Shayla (Daniel), Shawn (Connie), Carena (Jay), and Kyle, her precious great grands, Justyn, Cameron, Emily, Maria, Sierra, Evan, Malakai, Caspian, Charlie, Violet, Paisley, Nash, Rhett, Wyatt and baby coming in March. Mom is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom she loved very much.

Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband George, her daughters Carol and Sherry, her son-in-law Bob, her parents George and Beatrice, her siblings Ron (Evelyn), Raymond (Ruby), Clement (Vi), and Triss, her partner Larry Francis who was a wonderful companion for her and nieces Noreen Rowland, Valerie Holowinski, Barbara Brown, and Patricia Stefaniuk.

Mom was born in St Ouens, MB into a loving family many of whom came over from England. She was a loving, kind-hearted mother, nana and great nana not only to us, but with her welcoming and warm caring nature easily made others feel part of the family. She touched the hearts of many who often also considered her a second mom, a nana or a special friend. She always showed concern for others, putting their needs first. She was a great cook and baker, especially her homemade bread and doughnuts. No one could leave her place hungry. Even at 98, she amazed us with her tremendous memory.

Mom was always appreciative and felt blessed to have family helping her in her aging years and especially for the tender care she received this past month from family members and her fabulous homecare workers, which enabled her to stay in her home.  To Barb, Treasure, Doug, Sheri, Janice, Heather and many others, know that mom was always grateful for all you did for her, even though she could get a bit feisty and stubborn at times. Thank you!

Mom, you will be dearly missed and never forgotten!

There will be a Come & Go Viewing open to the public on Tuesday, February 8 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour. Proof of vaccination is not required for the viewing.

Condolence from Bill Gillespie on February 8th, 2022 12:14 am

Vi will always hold a special place in my heart. When we first moved to Beausejour when I was 9, George was my very first friend and I have great memories of the many times spent with the Holowinski’s. Much of those happy times were because of the warmth and kindness of Vi and how she always made everyone feel welcome in their home. Her donuts were the best!! Vi was also one of my mother’s oldest and dearest friends. Our thoughts and prayers go out to George and Gisele, Wendy and Robert and the entire family. Vi was a remarkable and special lady who will always be loved and missed by all who knew her. With our deepest condolences,
Bill, Corinne, Ryan and Evan Gillespie

Condolence from Lindsay H on February 8th, 2022 9:01 pm

Wendy & Family;

When I first met “Nana” I instantly felt apart of her family. She reminded me so much of my late grandmother with her caring nature, fiestiness, and her love for talking on the phone. I remember one Thursday evening I went over for supper and she had told me Wednesday evening she wanted KD for supper… so I said her to “okay nana, I’ll come early.” When I had got there she had the water boiling and had added ALL the contents… she said to me with a chuckle… “today I’m 98”. I am so thankful I was blessed enough to be a part of Violets home care team. I will forever miss our chats over tea, seeing nana light up when talking about her family, especially her grandkids.. she loved you all so much. I know god saved you the most beautiful spot up there Nana so you can fiercely watch over your family as you did from earth side.

Sending you all hugs during this difficult time. Violet will be deeply missed.

Condolence from Merna Omichinski on February 8th, 2022 11:07 pm

Condolence from Allen & Vicky Friesen on February 9th, 2022 10:58 am

Our condolences to Violet’s family, from Allen and Vicky Friesen.
May precious memories comfort and God’s love be near.
I, Vicky, met Violet for the first time in 2015. Up until mid 2020, we spent almost every other Thursday morning together as I cleaned Violet’s house.
Sharing with Violet has instilled in me a deeper appreciation for the important values of life.
Violet had a remarkable perseverance in choosing the better way.
She cared for her family with unconditional love and fortitude.
I enjoyed hearing the snatches of history she shared. Numerous times she talked of the challenge when her mother lost her eyesight.
“You can live with us.” Violet assured her parents. Violet’s home was a haven for many and she was not daunted by needing to go the second mile.
Talking of skating, Violet said, “I never learned to skate. I wanted to but I was too busy helping at home.”
Survival through the ‘30’s didn’t afford much “me time”.
And yet, Violet didn’t complain. Her life held ups and downs, her husbands and partners deaths, her daughter’s deaths, but what’s remarkable is Violet’s continued up-look.
“I’m ok.”
She always replied.
And the dear unselfish soul was “ok”.
I really admired her stamina enduring all the aches and pains that come with living almost till 99!
And not long ago I stopped by her cozy, two-story house and she was still managing “at home”.
Sitting at her quaint, red topped table with a cup of hot drink.
Still thinking of others. “Tell your family hi from me.”
If we can all follow Violet’s example of serenity and integrity the world will be a better place
