Margit MacCharles (nee Kunz) The Pas, MB
To Mr. Melnick’s Family,
I remember going from Seven Sisters to Whitemouth with my Dad to purchase my first new car from Melnick Motors. I so enjoyed the experience and Mr. Melnick had, in my opinion, found the career he loved and he was very good at it. I recall sitting in our classroom at Whitemouth School watching him and Mrs. Melnick leave for work each morning. He was always someone I admired for his work ethic and his dedication to the customers he served for so many years. I was very happy for you Jeff, when you followed in his footsteps and carried on the legacy he left for you and I am sure you know how very proud he must have been that you continued what he started so many years ago. To all of Mr. Melnick’s family I extend my most sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Please cherish and treasure your memories. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Tommy sold my father, John Hlady, the first car I can remember my dad buying in Whitemouth. When I was 16 Tommy took me for my driving test around the “loop”in Whitemouth. I managed to drive through town, around the Loop and back to his garage and was granted my license. My dad, long deceased, always spoke very highly of Tommy. I was saddened to see he has passed on.

I have a funny story about Tommy I had to share. Tommy definitely had a way of getting to a car buyer through their wives. In our case, my parents (John and Ann Hlady) went to Tommy’s garage, shopping for a new car. Tommy gave my dad a brand new 1959 maroon four door sedan Pontiac Laurentian to test drive. While he was gone, Tommy pointed out to my mom, the demo car he was driving – a new light mint green, four door hardtop, 1959 Pontiac Parisienne! What a beautiy!! Mom fell in love with it. When my dad returned from his test drive, my mom’s words were – “how can we buy that plain maroon car when Tommy said we can have this one” (the green Parisienne). Cost a lot more but Mom got the car she wanted – and she didn’t even drive!
Once again, my heartfelt condolences to the Melnick family. Tommy will be missed.

My condolences to the Melnyk family on the loss of Mr. M.
He was quite a character and always made me laugh. Lyn, I still tell the story of why your Dad wouldn’t eat in particular restaurants if they were located beside animal clinics and I find myself automatically checking out the businesses neighbouring animal clinics to this day.
It’s never easy to lose someone dear. You are in my thoughts and I hope you will find peace in your hearts in the days to come.
