Theodore Alexander Galay

1941 ~ 2018

Theodore “Ted” Alexander Galay, aged 76, passed away peacefully in his Vancouver home on February 28, 2018.

He was born on July 16, 1941 in Beausejour, Manitoba and was junior to his twin brothers Carl and Victor. Ted was a thoughtful man who listened more than he spoke. He was a strong intellect who won the Governor General Award in grade 12 for being the top student in Manitoba. He had his PhD in Mathematics and taught at the college in Brandon, MB followed by Langara College in BC until retirement. He was also a successful playwright, author of “After Baba’s Funeral” and “Tsymbaly,” among others. His mother, Lena and father, John, predeceased him. Ted’s wry humour, sharp mind and natural storytelling ability will be greatly missed by his brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Beausejour, MB.

Oh my! I am just seeing this notice now and the date is Sept 7th, 2020.
I wanted the chance to pay trubute to my dear friend Ted Galay who my
husband Grant and myself met back in the late 1970’s while living in
Vancouver. Ted was one of our closest friends and we spent many
hours enjoying his jokes his tales and his wonderful cooking. We
have very fond memories of Ted. He was an extremely kind and
gentle man and very generous – always keen to share whatever
he had. I remember so well driving around Vancouver with him
usually in the wrong gear in his manual motor-car. I also remember
how delighted he was after having written Sweet & Sour Pickles,
his first play which went on to tour and was so well received.
I wish all of the Galay relations well and know that Ted certainly
featured in our lives as a very loved and special friend.
I am very sad to have missed his company all the years living
in NZ form 1980 onwards. RIP Teodore! Mary & Grant Haigh
