February 10, 1952 ~ January 18, 2023
Our hearts are broken once again. Dad passed away on January 18, 2023 at the age of 70, at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, with mom and us girls by his side. Dad was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago at the age of 64 and we have been grieving the loss of our dad ever since. Mom cared for Dad at home during the early months of his diagnosis and he has been in a care home for the last 5 years; Tyndall House in Selkirk, followed by East Gate Lodge in Beausejour.
We would like to thank the nurses and health cares aids who took care of dad over the last 5 years. You all have hearts of gold. A special thanks to the nurses and health care aids who cared for dad in his last days. You all were so kind, gentle and loving with dad and made sure he was comfortable. You answered all of our questions and concerns, put up with our music, laughter, tears and most of all, always made sure we were ok.
Dads love for life will be continued through his family; his wife of 47 years Jan, his daughters Tara (Lonnie) Liske, Kerri (Dave) Pleskach and Cristy Law (Jason), his grandchildren; Brek, Rorie, Addison and Jaeda and his sisters Judy (Leon) Cluff and Sandy (Murray) McDonald, as well as many extended family members and many, many, many friends.
Dad was born in Broadview, Saskatchewan on February 10, 1952, to Edith and Jack. He was the second oldest of his siblings; Judy, Sandy, and Jim. Dad spent the first 6 years of his life with his parents and sister at his Uncle Bob’s farm collecting eggs, pumping water, milking cows and being spoiled with culinary delights by his grandpa and nana. Dad always had room for dessert and he thought that an extra trip to the bathroom would allow him a little extra room for more ice cream. He spent his time riding around town on 4 mile road on his bicycle or fishing around Crooked Lake Sunset Beach. The family later moved to Winnipeg then to Brandon in his early teens.
Dad asked Mom, his high school sweetheart to marry him in the A&W drive thru in 1974, or so he told us girls. Mom says they were engaged on the North Hill. Although dad never did graduate high school as he was too busy playing cards in the common room, he did graduate from Red River with his Business Administrative diploma. Mom and Dad were married on October 4th, 1975. They lived in Brandon for a short period before Dad was transferred by MTS to Flin Flon, where they started their family. Tara was born in 1978, followed by Kerri in 1980. Dad was then transferred to Thompson, where Cristy was born and their family was complete, as Dad wanted to have all his kids before he turned 30. Dad was then transferred once again to Beausejour, where our family settled down and called it home ever since.
Dad worked for MTS for most of his working life, then took an early retirement at the age of 52. He then worked for the Post Office in Beausejour where he delivered rural mail, which allowed him to be on the golf course every afternoon…as a bad day on the golf course is better than any day at the office. Other jobs he had throughout the years, was a substitute school bus driver, installed satellite dishes, Dj’d and set up party tents; which always took longer to set up as Dad would somehow end of having drinks with the people who rented the tents.
Us girls were Dad’s pride and joy. He would boast about us to anyone who would listen. This lasted until the grandkids were born, then they became number 1 in Dad’s eyes. He would attend every hockey game and event he could to support them, and would drop anything to play with them or do anything the grandkids would ask of him.
Dad was actively involved with the community his entire life. From playing baseball, curling and bowling, to volunteering his time wherever he could. He was a long time member of the Beausejour Legion, where he had a stint of being President and called bingo when asked – even though he hated it (B4 and after, under the O clickity-click). He umped baseball and would ump our games as often as he could. Him and his friends organized 9 years of ‘Pig Fests’ that were so successful with attendance from the town of Beausejour, they could no longer organize. He was also on the committee that was responsible for bringing the Guy Lafleur Sportsman Dinner to Beausejour, as a fundraiser for the Beausejour arena.
Dad loved to travel. Mom and dad took their first trip together for their 25th wedding anniversary and they travelled every year after. His favorite trip was a Caribbean cruise; a trip he did not want to go on but loved it once he found out there were many bars and people to meet. They always came home with funny stories and many memories were made with their friends. Dads other love was golfing. Dad could always be found on the golf course with his buddies where the 19th hole always got him in trouble. His love of the golf course may have contributed towards his passion for the greenest, weedless grass on the block.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 2:00p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, Manitoba. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery in Beausejour, followed by a time of fellowship and lunch at the Beausejour Legion Hall.
If you plan to attend the celebration of life, please dress in casual clothing. Dad did not like dressing up, so this will be a casual affair (jeans, sweats or anything that you are comfortable in). He was also louder than life, so please wear a color (no black).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Terry’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or go spend time with his daughters over a bottle of red wine.
Cheers dad. We hope you are on the golf course or on the 19th hole having a drink with your parents, grandpa Warnick, your brother Jim and Maggy by your side.

Our sincere condolences on the passing of your dad and husband. We have fond memories of Terry from when they lived in Flin Flon. Jan and I were employed at CIBC where we became great friends. Lots of partying, going to our cabin, skidooing, hockey. etc. We also stayed with them when Bob was between jobs and had bought a house, but we weren’t able to move yet. You are correct; Terry was larger than life! Jan and Terry offered to look after our dog for six months while we travelled Europe. Talk about wonderful friends! We gave them a chime clock for their efforts, and I guess it took quite a while to get used to that hourly chime!! Many years later Terry was up here working with a friend, and Bob took them fishing. They went home with smiles and their limits of fish. We were then invited to Country Fest and had a fantastic time. All their group had campers and fifth wheels and Bob and I had a pup tent. That is our last memory of your family. We were adopted by all at CFest. Jan we have only missed one year since! We went to Beausejour once and have met all three of your girls when you were much much younger. Take care of each other. Terry left your family with rich memories❤️

Jan, my husband played pickelball with Terry. I did not know him, but discovered after reading obituary something we had in common. My family also came from Broadview Sask. They moved from Broadview in 1953, but my grandparents lived there for another ten years. We also spent out summers at Sunset Beach, Crooked Lake. Such a small world. My Mom was a nurse at hospital in 1952, and could have assisted in delivery. My maiden name is Hicke. Just thought I would let you know. My sincere condolences to your family.

Just learned of Terry’s passing. I know, in a way, it is a blessing to stop the suffering, but still so sad!
Terry, Jan and family moved to Beausejour in 1983, moving as my neighbour on Belle Place. I think it would be safe to say, that with similar interests, we soon became best friends – and spent hours together, be it on the golf course, our favorite watering hole, or just visiting back and forth. What wonderful neighbours!
Lots of fun times! I could almost write a book on the memories I had with Terry and family! Need a hand at anything, Terry was always there, so handy and willing to help and donate his times. My family was so fortunate to know the Law family!!! Terry was the type of guy that would truly give you the shirt off his back, no questions asked.
Jan, Tara, Kerri and Christie – my thoughts and prayers are with you as you move on in life. Cherish the memories – you were very lucky to have Terry as a husband, father and best friend – and he was lucky to have you! You were a great five-some!
“Will remember you forever Terry – rest in peace, my friend!”
