It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Teenie Gmiterek, on Tuesday August 18, 2020, at St. Boniface Hospital.
Teenie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Brian (Judy), her grandsons Christopher (Alex) and Kevin and her great-grandson Isaac. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary (Hutniak) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband John in 1997; sisters Anne, Elsie, Margaret and brother John.
Teenie was born on July 29, 1924 on the family farm in Brokenhead, MB. As a young woman she worked at a variety of jobs; everything from a nanny/housekeeper for a family in Winnipeg, to working in a meat packing plant, to working at Eaton’s in Toronto! She married the love of her life John in June of 1952 where they worked side-by-side on the farm, growing a variety of crops and raising livestock. On October 31, 1953 they welcomed their son Brian who brought great joy to their lives. She moved into Beausejour in 1997 after Dad passed away but she continued to maintain the farm and a full garden until 2014.
In addition to Mom being a dedicated wife and mother she was devoted to her 2 grandsons Chris and Kevin and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She was ecstatic when she became a great-grandmother in 2019. Her love and generosity were unmatched.
Mom loved getting together with family and friends. Whenever anybody stopped by, an unending supply of food would magically appear. She was a fantastic cook! In fact, any task she took on, she excelled at. She planted and maintained a huge garden & managed to preserve everything from tomatoes to chicken. Mom was a dedicated member of the Roman Catholic Church. In the early years she was instrumental in helping to maintain St Thomas Catholic Church in Allegra followed by St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ladywood. She continued to support St. Mary when she moved into Beausejour. Her undying faith remained a comfort to her throughout her life, especially during her final years.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 5th floor at Parkview Personal Care Home as well as the staff at Donwood EPH and PCH for their excellent care and support.
A private family service and interment will take place on Monday August 24, 2020. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 530 Atlantic Ave., Beausejour, MB, R0E 0C0 or to your favourite charity.

My heart is breaking. Auntie Teenie was a very special person to me and I am going to miss her dearly. There were so many great times spent on the farm as I was growing up and then the move to Beausejour where lunch was a 10 coarse meal followed by zucchini chocolate cake and her famous cinnamon buns. I know that there are many, many of us who were so special to Auntie Teenie and in turn she was so special to all of us.
We will never forget you.
