(nee Kapeluch)
February 20, 1959 – July 31, 2011
Surrounded by the love of her family, Sandra reluctantly succumbed to her long courageous battle with cancer.
Left to cherish her memory are husband Trefor, mother Mae, sisters Adele and Debra (Mark), adored nieces Maya, Lexi, and Tori, and numerous family and friends, especially lifelong friend Benji. Sandy was predeceased by her father Don, brother Donnie and many other relatives and pets.
Sandy was born in Winnipeg and resided for the past several years in beautiful Pinawa where nature was her backyard. She attended Garden City Collegiate and graduated from Kildonan East Collegiate.
Sandy’s passion was travel and thus her fulfilling career as a Travel Consultant. Her zest for life and new experiences led her in many directions. She was employed at Canada Packers, Toronto Dominion Bank, Eaton’s, the RM of Alexander, Beausejour Family Services, South Interlake Credit Unions
, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, and American Express Travel. She forged many strong friendships everywhere she went.
Sandy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January 2005, and we all thought she had it beat until it returned in January, 2010. Although cancer ravaged her body, her inner strength, will to survive and determination helped her live life to the fullest and she had a positive attitude filled with hopes and dreams.
To describe Sandy as an animal lover would be an understatement. She had many pets throughout her life that she adored. At the time of her passing, she leaves behind her precious dogs Sadie and Hector, and special cat Tucker.
There are too many special family and friends to name, to be thankful for. You know who you are and how special each of you was to Sandy.
Sandy, you were the greatest role model for teaching strength, courage and standing up for what you believe in. Auntie Sandra was Maya, Lexi, and Tori’s #1 fan, showing up at every event/game that she could.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Pinawa Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, and CancerCare Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg R3T 9Z9, or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg R3E 0V9.
A celebration of Sandy’s life was held Friday, August 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel. Wear pink!
Love you forever, Sandy.

To Sandy’s family, So sorry for your loss. Her’s was a life well lived. I met Sandy at K.E. and then again at the cancercare walk with Donna.
I think this sucks and there are no words to really make it better.
Having said that, my prayer is that you will find strength and comfort in each other and in the memories you have of an amazing lady.
Peace.

I bought a card for Sandy just a few weeks ago, not having the opportunity to share it with her, I will bring it with me. And excert of it is what Sandy meant to me. I feel exceptionally fortunate to have crossed paths with this “pink lady”: “strong women are those who know the road ahead will be strewn with obstacles, but they choose to walk it because it’s the right one for them” Sandy may have got beat down but always stood back and stepped up again. I am proud to have known her. I will always hold her dear to my heart. To Trefor and her so much beloved family and close friends, she was a “remarkable person” Claire

Dear Trefor and Family: Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Although Tim and I are in Alberta, our hearts are always in Manitoba with our friends and loved ones. Sandi was the most beautiful person we have ever known, her smile lit up a room. I will never forget her laugh or her great advice. God bless you all.
