Ruby Theunissen (nee Hartwell) born November 6, 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, Manitoba.
Ruby was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Rena, brothers Bunny, Tiny and Barry, husbands Edward and Hank and daughter Rhonda. She will be dearly missed by sons Bill and Jim, daughter-in-law Corinne, grandsons Russ, Ryan, Evan, granddaughter Crystal and great-granddaughter Cara.
Ruby enjoyed the simple life in Beausejour and being out in the country, could gaze up and ponder all the stars in the sky. She was fortunate to have had the company of some very close and life-long friends. She looked forward to shopping trips, was excellent at crosswords, loved her coffee and long telephone visits with her girlfriends. For decades, a day wouldn’t go by when she didn’t talk to best friend Vi Holowinski on the phone. When she finally overcame her fear of flying, she’d spend some summers visiting her family in Vancouver. She’ll be remembered for her home cooking – especially roast beef dinners, home-made pizzas and the best-ever, no-recipe “holubtsi’s”.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at East Gate Lodge for their care and compassion these last several years.
There will no service at this time and the family will have a private celebration of Ruby at a later date.

Our sincere condolences. Ruby lived a couple doors down on Turner Street. Was always nice to meet up and share some words with her.

God speed Ruby. I babysat Rhonda when she was a toddler and got to know Ruby well. She was a very nice lady. She and Rhonda are probably having tea with Auntie Vi and my mom, laughing and smiling.

Bill, Corinne, Jim and family, we are saddened to hear of Ruby’s passing. Ruby was a part of our family since I was a young girl. We have many fond memories of shopping, tea parties, doctor appts., holiday get togethers. Everyone was an adventure. Ruby especially liked talking to the girls about Keeping up with the Kardashians. She always made us laugh. Ruby’s later years were not kind to her but she made the best of it. We know she will be welcomed in heaven by Rhonda, Violet, Carol and Sherry. We will miss you Ruby and we hope you knew how much we loved you. We will be with you to say our final goodbyes. Wendy and Robert and family

We were sad to hear of Ruby’s passing. She was my coffee buddy and neighbour for years. We spent a lot of time visiting, shopping. My daughter Paula and Rhonda were buddies. Ruby made the greatest cup of coffee and made the greatest meals.
We moved to BC and were blessed to have Ruby and Rhonda pay us a visit while they were visiting Bill and the family. Many, many fond memories….happy times. Rest In Peace dear friend. Stephanie and Bob Babey
