Robert Tinant

ROBERT JEAN TINANT

August 28, 1920 – August 26, 2011

On August 26, 2011 with his loving wife of 60 years by his side, Robert passed away peacefully at the Pinawa Hospital.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Eli, his brother Roger (& Rita) Tinant of Lac du Bonnet, sisters: Henriette Lintott of Regina, Therese (& Norm) Hetherington of Ottawa, and Marie Wurch of Beausejour; in-laws include James Balness of Winnipeg, Chris & Netta Balness of Lac du Bonnet, Peter Burchuk of Gunton, Howard & Betty Balness of Lac du Bonnet, and sisters-in-law Maryanne Balness of Whitemouth, and Evelyn Balness of Calgary, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and family.

He was predeceased by his parents Henri and Clotilide Tinant, brothers-in-law: Clarence (Lindy) Lintott and George Wurch; father and mother-in-law Christopher and Catherine Balness; brothers-in-law: George Balness and Gerald Balness; sisters-in-law: Suzie Balness and Marian Burchuk; nephew Carson Balness, and great niece Shanna Archer.

Robert was born in the Grande Clairiere area of Southwestern Manitoba, where the family farmed.  At the age of 12 years, the family moved to Lac du Bonnet, renting a farm in the Landerville area.  He was the second oldest of five children.  He was proud of his time spent in the Army, serving his country before being called home to help on the family farm.  Robert met his future wife Eli in 1948, waiting patiently for almost three years to make her his bride.  Their first winter of marriage was spent in a logging camp, where Robert cut Hydro poles.  They settled on a farm three miles Northeast of Lac du Bonnet. In the early days of his marriage, Robert opened his home to Eli’s brothers and sister, teaching them about family values and a good work ethic. For fifty years, his passion was farming, and he took great pride in their fields, their cattle, and his trapping skills. In later years, his passions expanded to include fishing, games of pool, and hunting.  Robert was a modest man of strong opinions, often helping friends and neighbours both physically, and with good advice.

He served his community as a Councillor for several years with the Municipality of Lac du Bonnet, and is an honorary lifetime member of the Pioneer Club.

Robert was a generous and loving man who adored his wife Eli and was always surrounded by his nieces and nephews, who he cherished very much.

The family would like to thank Eli for her love and devotion to Robert during his lifetime.  He often said he could not have married a better wife.

Funeral Service were held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lac du Bonnet Lutheran Church.

Honorary pallbearers include James Balness, Chris Balness, Howard Balness, Peter Burchuk, Roger Tinant, and Norm Hetherington.

Everyone is welcome to join the family at the Legion Hall for a time of fellowship and lunch, following the service.

Flowers gratefully declined.  Should friends desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice.
