1927 – 2020
Robert George Skidmore, born on December 28, 1927, entered into the presence of his Lord on April 5th, 2020, having lived a life full of wisdom and godly devotion. His children, Daniel and Heather, will remember him with love for his constant encouragement and support, and his steadfast, unwavering, and practical faith. Dad taught us the value of both a good education and checking the oil in the car. He was a runner all his life, and loved a good race or a jog down a country road. He taught us to skate, catch a ball, parallel park, balance a cheque book, and that a person’s value was found in their honesty, not material wealth. He was a loving Papa to Joshua, Benjamin, and Andrew, always proud of their accomplishments and milestones, and they will always have “Bob Up In Canada” in their hearts and memories.
Six years after the loss of his wife Elinore, Dad found a second blessing by marrying Ruth, blending the two families into one. She and her children, Barry Sawatsky (Sonya), Alma Johnston (Gary), Mark Sawatsky (Briget), and Tara Plamondon (Chris), along with their children, will also fondly remember Dad for his wit, conversations about world events, and genuine interest in their lives. He cared quietly, but deeply.
Dad leaves numerous family members and friends behind to remember him, and the family would like to express their appreciation for the outpouring of love and words of kindness shown to us in the days leading up to his passing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Rio Grande Bible College, 2005 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg, MB R2N 4P1. Due to the current pandemic concerns, no funeral will be held at this time. There will be a public viewing on Wednesday, April 8, at Victory Baptist Church, 3428 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, between the hours of 3:00 o’clock and 7:00 p.m. One family at a time will be allowed into the building. There will be a private family interment on Thursday, April 9, with a “celebration of life” service at a later date.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and other staff, for the special care given to Bob, both at Grace Hospital and Misericordia Centre.

So very sorry for your loss. I met Bob 3 times. Only one of those times was at his home. He was very kind and hospitable to me. His daughter, Heather, is a very dear friend which is a constant in my family. Through his teachings and love to her, I see his legacy. His great vigor for life is enjoyed now through his family. Till we meet again my friend, see you at the Golden gates.

What a beautiful tribute to your daddy…We have fond memories of him while attending Victory Baptist church when we lived in Winnipeg and even when we returned to the area for a visit.
I can still see him chuckling after he heard your mom and i play a piano and organ duet..”polka style”…he waved his finger at me , winked and smiled at me…”i dont know about you two!”
Love and prayers to you all as you lay your daddy to rest. Heartfelt hugs and thoughts to family who arent able to be there.
What a gift Bob was and we all have a little smile of remembrance when we think of him.
Psalm 23:6..”Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The church family is family. He’s been part of my family as long as I can remember, faithfully and quietly serving the Lord. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. Even though he wasn’t exactly my target audience, he would inquire about when my next novel would be out.

It is with great sadness in my heart to hear of your dads passing. I have very fond memories of your mom and dad and sad as it is for those left behind to mourn them, Heaven has welcomed him and is Face to face with his Jesus. God bless you Daniel and Heather as you move forward at this difficult time.

Auntie Ruth – Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family during this time. Saying good bye to a loved one is hard during the best of times. We pray that you will have a real sense of God’s presence with you all and that you will be filled with his peace and comfort.
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
