1927 ~ 2013
Our Dad, Papa and Great-grandfather passed away June15, 2013 following a brief stay in Pinawa Hospital.
Left to cherish his memory are sons Garry (Margaret) and Bob (Claire), daughter Susanne (Ed) Thomson, grandsons Chad (Fiona), Troy (Chantal), Brent, Tim (Melissa) and great grandchildren Jayda and Ryland. He was predeceased by his wife Betty of 32 years, brothers Victor, Patrick, Vincent and sister Donna.
Born August 23, 1927 in St. Catharine’s, Ont., Phil moved to Birmingham, England with his family as a young child. He returned to Canada at age 18 to join his brother Pat in Timmins, Ont. Betty & Phil were married in 1950 in Timmins. They moved to Bancroft, Ont., then on to Chibougamau, Que. for 10 years and finally to Lac du Bonnet in 1970, where he was mechanical foreman at Tanco mine until his retirement in 1992.
Phil served his communities through Boy Scouts Canada, the Masonic Lodge, St. John’s Anglican Church and as a First Responder and trainer with the Lac du Bonnet Ambulance Service for 10 years.
Family meant everything to Phil. The happiest time of his life was when his children were young. He was blessed to have them and their families nearby and to be able to watch his grandkids grow up. They adored their Papa.
Many thanks to the kindness and compassion shown to Phil and our family by Pinawa Hospital staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association (629 McDermot Ave., Wpg, MB R3A 0C8), St. John’s Anglican Church (Box 1511, Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0), the Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way, Wpg., MB R3T 0R3), or the Masonic Foundation of Manitoba (420 Corydon Ave, Wpg., MB R3L 0N8).
A celebration of Phil’s life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 86 McArthur Ave., Lac du Bonnet at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Our thoughts will be with the Stokes family as they gather to celebrate Phil’s life on Friday. Unfortunately, we will be at work in BC and unable to attend. Phil has been a great neighbour and friend for the past 25 years. He will be missed.
