It is with heavy hearts that we announce Philip’s passing on September 11, 2019 at the age of 90. He was born on January 6, 1929 to Angele and Howard Cyr, being the eldest of 10 children. Philip was predeceased by both his parents; his brothers, Larry, Norman and Gerald; his sisters, Florence, Beatrice and Dolores (Puddy); and his first wife Dolores. Left to mourn are his wife Trudy; his children, Martin (Eriko), Maureen (Harry) and Kevin; siblings, Yolande Dimock, Lloyd Cyr and Joe Cyr (Gale); stepdaughters, Colleen Lemire and Darlene (Laurent) Raymond; grandchildren, Shawn Sim, Brian Sim, Doug Sim, Andrew Sim, Alex Cyr, Marina Cyr, Logan Cyr, Lennon Cyr, and Tristan Tapsay Cyr. Philip was also a great grandfather to Seth Sim, Johnathon Sim, Nathaniel Sim, Elijah Sim, Mercedes Sim and Nicholas Sim. He also leaves to mourn his step granddaughters, Stevie, Randie, Jayley, Renée, Drew and one step great grandson, Jack.
Philip grew up in Bannocktown, spending much time on the Pine Falls golf course as a boy collecting golf balls and selling them. At a young age he would help his Dad cut the greens and maintain the course. It was a family affair as his mother worked in the clubhouse. Philip became an excellent golfer and very much enjoyed the game all his life well into his later years. He worked at the Abitibi Paper Mill for many years, first as a sheet metal worker and later transferred to the townsite which involved working outside, which he loved.
In 1950, he married Dolores Groves who passed away in 1983 leaving Philip a widower at the young age of 53. He had many adventures during the next phase of his life including obtaining his pilot’s license, purchasing his own airplanes and flying in the skies over Pine Falls and surrounding areas. He has always had a keen interest in motorcycles. Projects included the rebuilding of a 1942 Harley 45 in his garage on Cherry Street which kept him occupied for a number of years. Eventually he sold this beautiful bike and at times regretted it. But that didn’t stop him from riding as he was soon astride a brand new 1983 Honda Aspencade. Upon selling his Aspencade to his son Martin, he finished his riding career on a Harley, as he started.
Philip was in the process of restoring a 1963 Honda Benley while living on the river in St. Georges. Bachelor that he was, all the restoration was done right in his very own kitchen! Perfectly convenient! In the 90’s his friend Ken Pasoluko and himself embarked on a motorcycle adventure which took them from Vancouver Island to Halifax on a 1946 Harley-Davidson. The last Harley he owned was a black 2015. It was a sad day when he finally decided to hang up his motorcycle jacket at age 85! Always wanting the freedom to move, he recently purchased a golf cart and zoomed his way around town and down to his friend Denis Pereux’s to chat about planes!
Philip married his special friend, Trudy Guetre, at the tender age of 89 years. A wonderful ceremony at the Pine Falls Legion on January 6th, 2018 was attended by friends and well wishers. They enjoyed playing games together, dropping in at the Legion for the meat draw, venturing to the casino to cash in on all those big wins!
Phil was loved by everyone, always willing to help anyone who asked and certainly took time to talk to the younger ones and pass on his knowledge.
A special thanks to all our cousins in Pine Falls for their unending generosity, love and support, especially Kim, Judy and Craig. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Pine Falls Hospital for the care and compassion shown to him as he was in the hospital several times over the last year.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pine Falls Legion at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Donations may be made in Philip’s memory to the Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls.

Condolences for the family of “Philip Cyr”
Thoughts and prayers go out to all of Phil’s family and friends. He once told me that when he flew it was not IFR (instrument flight rules) that he flew instead it was “I Follow Roads”. This makes sense as he lived his life keenly observing all there was to see in this world. I have a special memory of uncle Phil when he came to visit my family in Whitecourt some 20 plus years ago with cousin Wade and uncle Lloyd. We went golfing and had a wonderful day together.
Uncle Phil ….here’s to a slight ripple on the water when you land your float plane in heaven.

I have many fond childhood memories of being at your house and your mom and dad were extremely welcoming into their home… My mom and your mom would coffee back-and-forth and your parents and my parents attended many house parties together… The community has lost a very dear member and he will be missed every day… Sending love and light to you all

Dearest Trudy, Martin, Maureen, Kevin and your families, Philip, I would like to let you all know that you are on our minds and in our hearts during this really sad time. Uncle Philip was soooo special to us. He definitely was a very extraordinary and unique man. He was always full of wonderful stories which we listened to with awe! He loved LIFE..The times we spent with him were very precious and we are so thankful that he was a part of our lives for such a long time. He will be sorely missed by his large family, his extended family and his many, many friends. We know he is in Safe, Warm and Loving Arms. Goodbye for now Uncle, til we all meet again..❤❤✌ We will miss U!!

Trudy, Maureen, Martin & Kevin we all feel your pain.
Uncle Phil was a huge part of my life as well as my family. He was an amazing Uncle to all of us, always had time for one, no matter how young or old. He was always willing to lend a hand in any project, big or small and was a joy to be around. Lots of laughs with uncle Phil.
A remarkable soul rode his Harley into the heavens and certainly will never be forgotten.

I remember Uncle Phil as a warm, content and open soul. Up for anything and everything with a sense of fun and adventure. Phil made life feel easy and good…. It will all work out! I always felt loved and welcomed on those rare but special visits to Pine Falls. Philip’s warmth and positivity has been passed down through his family, I can feel it shining through. Sending love and hugs to my family.
I grew up knowing alot of people in my life and I’m thankful I got to know Philip. He was a very close family friend. I might have been very young for most of it but I cherish the memories I have of him. Every now and then he would leave a comment on my Facebook checking in and I loved and appreciated that. It’s a little funny now that I think about it. For a 90 year old he did pretty good keeping up with us. I will miss him dearly and send my condolences and love to the family. He’ll always have place in my heart.❤
We are very sad to learn of Phil’s passing, and send our deepest condolences to Martin, Maureen, Kevin, Trudy, and all the extended Cyr family. A trip home to Pine Falls was always more pleasant when we would catch up with Phil in the Legion for a visit. He will be missed and remembered as a kind, fun and good family man.
