(nee Laine)
July 1951 – June 2023
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on June 5th, 2023. Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter Kelly Szajewski (Trevor), her son Kyle McCooeye (Meredith) and her grandchildren Tristan, Finn, and Molly. Mom will also be missed by her sister Glenda Hannah, brother Robert Laine (Suzanne), brother-in-law David McCooeye (Mary), sister-in-law Sandra de Souza, nieces, nephews, and family friends. Patricia was predeceased by her loving husband Danny McCooeye, her parents Levi and Anne Laine, her in-laws Donald and Vivian McCooeye, and brother-in-law Philip de Souza.
Mom was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario. She left home at eighteen and moved to London, Ontario where she met the love of her life, Danny McCooeye. After a whirlwind courtship they were married and moved to Manitoba as Dad had a job with AECL. Once us kids were in school, Mom went to work at AECL until the nineties. She then worked at several private companies in Winnipeg until finally retiring. Mom and Dad spent ten years cruising seeing everything in the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and three weeks in Portugal. Her last trip was to Paris with her sister, Glenda. Mom loved spending time with her grandchildren, lazy mornings doing crosswords, collecting movies, and warm afternoons reading in the sunroom. We love and miss you dearly, Mom. Hope you and Dad are enjoying that house on wheels and are having the greatest adventure together.
We would like to thank Cancer Care in Selkirk for their kindness throughout Mom’s illness and the Beausejour Home Care staff that make her last months at home possible. Thank you to Sobering Funeral Chapel for their support and guidance through this difficult time. As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a future date.

My condolences to the family. I have known Pat in Pinawa when we were both with the Research Chemistry Branch at AECL. Calm and ever cheerful, Pat kept a wary eye on us researchers and technicians as she juggled typing scientific papers and memos on esoteric topics, scheduling meetings, conferences and seminars, handling correspondance and generally keeping us in the administrative straight and narrow. Our paths crossed again in the late 1980s when I moved to Deep River and ended up buying Pat and Dan’s house there. Thanks for all the help Pat and rest in peace.

Kelly, Kyle and your families. I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your dear mother. I was very fortunate to have met Dan and Pat when I returned to AECL Pinawa in 1981 and joined a carpool with them for many years. Dan and Pat were wonderful people who will both be greatly missed.

Kelly, Kyle and family’s. My deepest condolences, your friend Gerry Graves. Patty and Danny lived in the suite in our upstairs when they married and became family. We became very best friends over the years, as our families grew together. Ann and I spent three weeks together with Benita and Joe and Patty and Danny, in Hawaii. Lots of fun times together. She was a sweet lady, will sure miss her. Gerry
