It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Odette Makela who passed away in Eric’s arms on December 15, 2023 at the age of 76.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Eric, as well her children, Christopher (Coralee) Moffat, Tanya (Rob) Shonosky, Pam (Warren) Black, Loretta Makela, Rylan (Torrin) Makela, and Kaitlyn Makela (Tristen Land). She is survived by her 9 grandchildren.
Many thanks to the RCMP, EMS and Pastor James Schwab for all their care and compassion.
As per Odette’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour, Manitoba.

I babysat for Odette on occasion when I was a teenager. She was a sweetheart. Best person i ever babysat for. Little did I know that one day she would become my sister in law. Odette and Eric were meant for each other. The changes and happiness she brought to my brother were so amazing. They both came to know the Lord through Pastor James Schwab. It so peaceful to know that Odette is now with our Lord God. We love you Odette and we miss you. But we have hope in seeing you again.

I was saddened to hear of Odette’s passing. My sincere condolences to her family. Odette and I crossed paths in the 80s she was babysitting at a home that I came in once a week to clean. We had some pretty good laughs about the challenges of being under 5ft tall !
