1932 ~ 2020
With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Mildred Juhnke (nee Els), wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born on December 9, 1932 in Medicine Hat, AB.
Mildred passed away October 26th, 2020 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was a resident at Golden Links Lodge, Winnipeg at the time of her passing.
She is survived by David, her husband of 60 years, two daughters: Jan (Lisle), and Barb (Gilbert), two sons: Ian, and Paul (Carrie) and 16 grandchildren (Will, Beckah, Alex, Dan, Megan, Ashleen, Jordan, Eric, Jocelyn, Philip, Lauren, Maddie, Peyton, Jacqueline, Jeanine, and Jenevieve) and 6 great grandchildren (Carson, Trinity, Kaydence, Sadie, Hazel and Emmett). She is survived by one brother, Herb (Linda), a very loved daughter-in-law Amanda and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by her parents Alex and Mary Els, a brother Eddie in infancy, two sisters Lydia Streck and Loreen Wright, nieces, and nephews. Many friends in Pinawa will miss her.
Mildred received her RN Diploma at the Yorkton General Hospital. She worked in Yorkton, Regina, Yellownknife and Ottawa before becoming a full time Mom. As the children grew older, she worked at the Pinawa Daycare Center for several years. She took pride in her home, and her annual and perennial flower beds. Her excellent cooking and baking skills were always looked forward to by our many family gatherings.
Mildred and David enjoyed many trips from coast to coast in Canada and visited many states in the US. They also enjoyed cruises in the Caribbean. Vacations were never lengthy because after a month or so she missed her home and family. Visiting family across the country held a very dear place in her heart as well.
Mildred’s faith was very important to her. Each night before going to bed she was found reading her Bible and praying. Mom was an active member in the Pinawa Lutheran Church. She has truly missed each and everyone of her church family since moving to GLL.
Mildred was an avid walker with Sharon, Marjorie, Agnes and Joan. She challenged herself to learn to swim after the kids were gone from home. Many summer days were spent swimming in the river or down at the pool. Mildred enjoyed her crafts group (thank you for your friendship) and many of the family were recipients of handmade treasures.
The family wishes to thank all those who have cared for Mildred over the years, especially those at the Pinawa Hospital and Golden Links Lodge. You were angels for Mildred and our family during difficult and joyous times.
Donations in Mildred’s memory may be made to Golden Links Lodge or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
A memorial service for Mildred will be held at a later date due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Mildred was a wonderful friend and co-worker. We worked together for years at the daycare and she loved her work and enjoyed all the children she cared for. I remember her starting swim lessons and coming to quiet swim was one of her most favourite summer activities. She will be sadly missed by all. May all your memories you have made with her over the years fill your hearts with love and joy knowing you had a very loving wife, mom, grandmother.

My family wants to send our sincerest sympathy to Dave, Jan, Barb, Ian and Paul.
Mildred was my roommate for three years in our training in Yorkton General Hospital. We shared many happy times and tears when needed. (sometimes a few times a day)
“The class of 1957 “ we all felt like we were sisters, we were a special class and we shared many reunions together which were almost like we had never parted and gone our own ways to face the other hospitals with our individual nursing skills and raise our families. MILDRED HAS A VERY SPECIAL SPOT IN MY HEART.❤️❤️❤️. She was also our bridesmaid at our wedding and she looked so beautiful.
Rest In Peace Mildred. Blessings to your special family.
Love to all Betty, Ken, Greg, Pam, Paul and JO-Anne.

Mildred was my friend and neighbor who I missed when she moved to Winnipeg. I have many fond memories of our walks around town and our endless conversations, swimming at the pool, and visiting in the yard. She was blessed with a lovely, supportive family who we got to know and enjoy. Her faith was admirable and we shared many Bible studies together. We want to extend our Condolences to the family.

Deepest condolences, Dave, and to your family as well, on the loss of Mildred. Mildred was the first person I met at Pinawa Lutheran, and was at that time active at the daycare. Such a kind and well intentioned person who will always be remembered for her devotion to her faith, as well as her caring nature.
