OCTOBER 25, 1916 ~ JUNE 24, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Bette Rutherford. She passed away peacefully in her home in Lac du Bonnet in her 103rd year. She has gone to be with her husband of 63 years, Robert Mark, who passed in 2003.
She is survived by her children, Lorna June, Robert (Gloria), Mauri (Penelope), Donna, Ted, and John (Michelle). As well as her grandchildren, Bill (Melanie), Mary (Roy), Chris (Rosemary), Kerri (Mike), Maegan (Bryan), Dylan (Angela), Nicholas (Laura) and David (Michelle). Great grandchildren are Britanny, Riley, Joel, Ben, Lucas, Annalise, Alexandra, Nicholas, Zachery, Owen, Madeline, Clara, Owen and Audrey.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert, Sister Helen (Garry), brother Mauri, sons-in-law Nathan and Al, and grandson Robby.
Our fondest memories are of the family dinners at 25 Cunnington Ave., where mom would put out incredible meals for family and guests. Also, with her family sitting around the breakfast table at LdB on a Sunday morning, she would serve up a feast. She was happiest when her family was at home with her.
As well as raising her six kids, Mom was involved with the Girl Guides, was secretary of the Manitoba Chiropractic Association, served in the Eastern Star Shriner’s Women’s Auxiliary and spent time supporting seniors and young women with disabilities. In her later years living in Lac du Bonnet she joined the Legion, loving to work the bingos, and helping at the seniors home. She loved her life in Lac du Bonnet, helping dad with the farm.
We would like to thank all the home care workers, nurses and doctors who allowed mom to remain in her home until the end. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
At her 100th birthday she attributed her longevity as follows: “Be happy. Love your family. Be happy”
Mom, thank-you for all you have done for us. You have left us with rich lives and many fond memories. Your beautiful smile and quick wit will be missed.
Donations may be made to the Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation.

Dear Rutherford Family. What a very dear and precious lady we will all miss. Visiting her at her home for about the last 4 or 5 years has been a true privilege, and Bette taught me so much about living a full life as she most definitely did. Her humour was astounding. Her faith in God was so firm and lived. I truly loved her and she will reside deeply in my heart. May you all feel God’s peace and strength as you heal. Marline Wruck

My sincere condolences to all of you. I had the privilege of being one of Bette’s home care ladies. We had so many great chats over the last year. Some I will cherish forever. I remember the week of my wedding she told me “Make sure you say I do, oh and don’t cry you don’t want to ruin your makeup.” And giggled. She was the sweetest most humble lady. I will miss her dearly. ❤️

My deepest condolences to Ted and the family. She was a wonderful soul that always was happy and a joy to be around. I was thinking of her on what would have been her 104th birthday and discovered she had passed. Rest in peace Betty, your light will shine on in the souls you have touched.
