Peacefully, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Beausejour Hospital, Margaret of 96 years, our mother and grandmother, went to join her beloved husband John.
Born in Brokenhead, MB on July 1, 1921, Margaret leaves to mourn son Douglas; daughter Claudia (François); grandchildren Jocelyn, Matthew (Katie and Lilly) and Carling (Mike); sister Teenie Gmiterek, and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband John in 1986; sisters, Anne and Elsie; and brother John.
Margaret and John farmed in Brokenhead district in the early 1950’s. Margaret retired to Beausejour in 1990. Margaret worked at numerous establishments in Winnipeg as a young woman, including Swifts Meat Factory during the war years. She then came back to Brokenhead to settle down with John and to start a family. Margaret was a devoted Ukrainian Catholic who loved her family very much. She loved working side by side with her husband on the farm and the fields. Margaret never shied away from hard work.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Beausejour, MB on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery in Beausejour. Reception at the Brokenhead River Community Hall.
We would like to thank Dr. Hastir, the nurses, and all housekeeping, dietary and lab staff at the Beausejour Hospital for taking care of Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate towards the Holy Ghost Cemetery Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Offer Condolence for the family of Margaret Chorney (nee Hutniak)
