April 22, 1948 – October 17, 2020
It is with deep sorrow and much love, that we mourn the peaceful passing of Lorne Nicholas Holigroski, on October 17, 2020 at Beausejour Hospital with his family by his side. He will be terribly missed by his loving wife Diane of 50 years; 46 years married. Left to cherish his memory are his five children, of whom he was so proud of: Crystal (Jeff Crang), Allegra, Brendan, Marcena; Derek (Candice), Jake, Alyssa; Tyler (Joyce), Declan, Colton, Rayne, Lexi; Michelle (Mark Klimchuk), granddog Rufus; Neil (Shellbea), Grayden, Gibson and baby expected in November.
Dad was born on April 22, 1948 in Winnipeg. He grew up in East Kildonan, completing high school at Miles Macdonell Collegiate. He followed his interest by becoming a journeyman electrician, later working for the Winnipeg School Division #1 until his retirement. He worked in the city, but his heart was in the country. As a teenager and into his early twenties, he enjoyed weekends on “The Farm”. After meeting Mom at a Thalberg social in 1970, Dad had one more reason to spend time in the Beausejour area. They dated for four years. On October 12, 1974, Dad married the love of his life. Dad and Mom made their home on the farm for 46 years. They were quite the team, busy raising children and chickens. Lots of chickens! Dad looked forward to auction sales and enjoyed farming. Trips to California, Florida, BC and the Maritimes created wonderful memories for Dad and Mom. Family was always Dad’s first priority. He gave his children strength and taught valuable lessons, like displaying what true love is. Dad could always find the right words to tell a story to share a laugh, or to provide advice and support. Dad had many lasting friendships over the years. He enjoyed socializing and reminiscing about good times, farming, cars, and snowmobiling. Dad treated everyone with kindness and respect. He will be remembered for his quick wit, firm handshake, playful grin and bear hugs.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents Nick and Kay Holigroski, and parents-in-law John and Bernice Matychak.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff, especially Scott, of Beausejour Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, for their care, compassion and support through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the Beausejour Hospital Television Fund.
As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions, a private family interment has taken place at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Ladywood, Manitoba.
