February 15, 1942 ~ January 11, 2012

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Mother In-Law, Sister, Sister In-Law, Aunt, Niece, Cousin and Friend, Lorna Reschke, on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital.

Lorna was the beloved wife and constant companion to Vic for over 51 years.  They met on a blind date and were married in Saint John, New Brunswick on January 23, 1960.

She is also survived by her daughters Cheryl (Steve) Campanotto and Shannon (David) Reschke-Derksen.  Her precious grandchildren are Rayna and Taran Campanotto, David and Gabrielle Derksen.

She was the oldest of six children born to Lauretta and Douglas Campbell.  Her siblings are Ethel (Gerrard) Langlais of Rothesay, New Brunswick and their children Lorie, Kevin, Leigh-Anne and Stephen, Arden (Ada) Campbell of Portage La Prairie and their children Freddie, Cindy, Lana and Darrel, Dale (Rita) Campbell of Yorkton and their children Clayton, Jason and Lisa, Brian (Krysia) Campbell of Saskatoon and Wayne Campbell of Yorkton.

She was predeceased by her father Douglas Campbell in 1987, her nephew Michael Langlais in 2000 and her mother Lauretta Campbell in 2011.

She will be remembered by Vic’s family, including sister Sylvia (Brian) Monka and their two daughters, Deborah and Susan of Kelowna, brother Eric (Valerie) Reschke and Godsons Kevin and Colin Reschke of Regina.

Her Aunts and Uncles in New Brunswick were special to her, as were their children, her cousins, many of whom grew up with her and remained close through visits and correspondence.  Her love of Scottish and “down east” music remained with her all her life and she was a talented step-dancer.

Her skills were many and served her well.   She was a bookkeeping machine operator at MRA’s in Saint John, New Brunswick, while Vic was stationed at Camp Gagetown with the Black Watch RHR.  They moved to Saskatchewan on his release from the military and their two daughters were born there.  She worked for the Saskatchewan Treasury Department at the Court House in Yorkton; Carnduff Motors in Yorkton; was a writer and later editor of GX Radio for eight years, then moved to Pinawa where she worked for Atomic Energy of Canada for over 23 years.

During her retirement years she continued writing, took up golf, created medieval costumes and enjoyed gardening and homemaking.  She was never far from her sewing machine or her typewriter, later computer.  She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years on fishing and hunting trips with Vic.  Her active lifestyle was curtailed by a series of strokes in 2007.

Her greatest joy was her four grandchildren.  The grownups were welcome to visit, but the times spent alone with each grandchild were special to her.  She considered them her treasure here on earth.

“Memories are like threads of gold…

They will never tarnish, never grow old.

As she was she will always be…

A beautiful thought in our memory.”

Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.  A private burial will be held at a later date in Pinawa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to a charity of one’s choice.
