1938 ~ 2021
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence (Larry) Daniel Ramsay into the presence of God on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the age of 83 years. Larry was born on April 25, 1938 in Kirkland Lake, ON to Mary and Richard Ramsay. He grew up in several Northern Ontario communities as his father travelled for work.
Larry moved to Chalk River, ON after high school to begin employment as a Design Draftsman for AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada Limited). He soon met and then married his loving wife, Patricia (Pat) Moon on October 21, 1961. Larry was transferred to AECL near Pinawa, MB in 1965. Larry and Pat settled into their new community with their young family which continued to grow. Larry spent his entire career with AECL and his work took him to Indonesia for many months at a time over a ten year period. He retired after 36 years of dedicated service at age 55 years.
The town of Pinawa was the perfect place for Larry to enjoy his hobbies. He was an avid outdoorsman and passed on his passion for hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren.
Larry was known as a “Jack of all trades” and he could fix almost anything. He took after his father’s skills as an inventor. Larry was always inventing, creating, and making modifications, particularly to his vehicles and fishing boats. He consistently had projects on the go, which kept his mind and body very active.
Larry had an entertaining sense of humour and he always had a good story to tell to anyone who was nearby to listen. In earlier years, he enjoyed camping trips with the family, and later travelled with Pat to Europe and Britain, and they also took several trips down to the southern States during the winter months. He loved to visit with his children and grandchildren, and in his older years he did not stray far from home.
Larry will be lovingly remembered by his family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him not only for his humour, talents, and quirks, but also for his warm heart and kind smile.
Larry is survived by his wife, Pat, their children, Sheryl (Tom) O’Quinn, Shelley (Paul) Ramsay, Lawrence (Tracey) Ramsay, and Lisa (Ken) Kroker. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Patsy Gosselin and granddaughter, Teya Ramsay. He leaves behind several grandchildren, Lindsay (Josh) Loeppky, Dave McLean, Tyson Ramsay, Kent (Kaci) Kroker, Brett (Brittany) Kroker, Holly (Simeon) Schueller, and eight great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Larry may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
