1954 ~ 2020

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth (Ken) William Chornopyski on December 29, 2020, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 66.

He was predeceased by his father and mother William and Elsie Chornopyski, and two brothers, Bob and Ron.

He is survived by his wife Carol, son Michael, daughter-in-law Samantha, grandsons William, Andrew and Cory; daughter Jennifer, grandchildren Brooke and Liam; sister and brother-in-law Connie and Warren Schau of Lake Cowichan, B.C.

Ken was self-employed for most of his adult life; he knew what he wanted to do in life, and pursued it.  His accomplishments included having his own silk screening company, sign company, small printing/advertising company; and the building of two homes, but his greatest passion was flying and airplanes.  In 1987 he obtained his most prized accomplishment – his Private Pilot’s Licence at the Winnipeg Flying Club.  He took great pride in becoming the “Ultralight Flying Instructor of Manitoba”.  He enjoyed teaching and bestowing his immense knowledge of flying and airplanes to other flying enthusiasts, but he was most proud when he accomplished building his own runway to share with all his flying family.

Cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be scattered on his runway at a later date, once Covid restrictions are lifted.  He would love this.

The family would like to thank all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba.  We would also like to thank Dr. Partyka and the wonderful staff at Beausejour Hospital for making it possible for Ken to spend his last few weeks in the comfort of his own home.  Special thanks to Laura Klammer – Palliative Nurse for her compassionate support throughout this time.

Cancer took him away from us much too soon, but it cannot take away our memories.

Rest in peace my love.

Condolence from Barry Wood on January 9th, 2021 2:26 pm

Dear Carol and Family,
Just wanted to give you my condolences and to say how upset I was to hear of Ken’s passing. Although I did not know him all that well I remember one event as clear as a bell which I believe gives a good look into his character. I remember you showing me one day proof of something I thought was impossible to do and fool hearted to try. The photo was of Ken coming back across the Canadian border from Wisconsin in mid-January driving a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird (with about 300,00 km’s on it) and pulling a plane behind on a trailer. What “kahonas” he must have had. I’m sure there are many other stories that you cherish which displays his love of life.

Thinking of you at this time.
