John Gregorchuk

1926 – 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of John Gregorchuk announce his passing on December 4th, 2014 at the age of 88. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Pearl, daughter Sandra Orford (Bob Chopey and their daughters Beth and Courtney) and son Perry Gregorchuk (sons Branden and Byren) and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

John was born in Lowland, MB on August 21, 1926 as the middle child to Fedor and Katherine Gregorchuk. John was predeceased by both his parents, his sister Olga Gregorchuk, brother William Gregorchuk and sister Olga Molinski.

He grew up and worked on a family farm in Lowland, Manitoba and attended the Landerville School. In his younger years, John enjoyed farming, construction and playing music in a band at numerous weddings and parties. After marrying Pearl in 1955, he and Pearl moved to Winnipeg and started his career as a welder with CP Rail. John worked for CP Rail for more than 30 years without missing a day of work.

After retiring from CP Rail, both John and Pearl enjoyed travelling together visiting Vancouver, Las Vegas, and other parts in the US. Soon John and Pearl loved to spend their weekends and holidays at their cottage, playing with his grandchildren, going fishing, playing music or just driving the boat. In his later years, John enjoyed visiting with friends for coffee or meeting up with them at the casino.

For the last three years, John slowly suffered from Alzheimer’s, but with Pearl by his side, he always had the best care from her, Sandra, Perry, Bob and the Grandkids.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for caring for him during the last few months.

A Funeral Service in memory of John will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, MB on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Those who desire, may make memorial donations in memory of John to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Was just searching the family name Gregorchuk when I discovered John’s obituary.

First, let me offer my belated condolence to John’s surviving family members.

I am Bob Gregorchuk, the son of the late Bill (Wasyl) Gregorchuk of Southern California who was born January 7, 1906 in Arbakka, Manitoba. His parents were John (born 07/29/1855) and Anna (born 1869 Gregorchuk. Both were born in Ukraine.

John and Anna Gregorchuk had the following children: 5 Gregorchuk children born in the “Old Country”: Helen (1887), Maria (1892), Maftey (1894), Manoli AKA Mike (1896), Sidoria (1902). Sidoria died in Canada at 6 years of age.

Five more children were born to Anna and John at the Arbakka, Manitoba homestead. Christina was born in 1903 and died at five years of age. Wasyl (Bill) was born January 7, 1906, Mitro (Matt) on July 20, 1908, Elizabeth in August of 1910, and Effie on January 6, 1912.

My father Bill got tired shoveling snow and moved our family to Southern California in 1952.

Any family history or possible family connection you can send me is appreciated.

Thank you and cordially, Bob Gregorchuk, 1215 Anchors Way Dr, #108, Ventura, California 93001
