September 25, 1926 ~ May 7, 2018
Mr. John E. Guthrie, formerly of Pinawa, Manitoba, died quietly and peacefully in the early hours on May 7, 2018 at High River, Alberta.
John was born in Montreal, Quebec on September 25, 1926 to parents Janet and John Guthrie. He was predeceased by his parents; infant son John; granddaughter Kyla, and his wife and soulmate Gladys. John is survived by his two daughters, Trisha (Bill) vanErp of Sunnyvale, California and Beth (Paul) Lievaart of Nanton, Alberta; grandchildren, Brianna (Tim), Erin (Will), Alissa (Jose), Brian (De) and Megan; as well as his great-grandchildren, William, Eva and Emily.
John (known lovingly by old friends and family as Jock) had a varied career serving in the Canadian Army during the Second World War and Korea. John left the military in 1959 and joined AECL as a research scientist. John is remembered for his dedication and commitment to family and community and was one of Pinawa’s busiest volunteers in his retirement years before moving to Alberta to be near his family. John’s wit, gentle humour and the joy he took in innocent mischief will be remembered by those who called him Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle and Friend.
Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the F.W. Gilbert Elementary School on Massey Avenue in Pinawa, Manitoba.
Offer Condolence for the family of John Erskine Guthrie

Pat & Larry Ramsay
My husband and I came to know Jock mainly through John Fenton, our neighbor as we had many occasions to visit together at John’s home, and he and Gladys also visited with us in our home. Jock was always a wonderful person to be around with his warmth, humor, wit, kindness and charm! He poured so much of himself into life in Pinawa and made an impact for good on our community and those he met. We missed him when he left to go to Alberta. Our deepest sympathy to Beth and Trish and their families. You had parents to be proud of in Jock and Gladys!
