1951 ~ 2023
John Nixon passed away with his wife Diane by his side, on March 19th, 2023, at the age of 71 at Selkirk Hospital.
Also surviving John are his stepdaughter Corrie (Mike Moreau) Clearwater; grandchildren Andy (Madison) and Maggie Sutherland; brothers Allen (Cheryl) and Doug; sisters-in-law Gail (Ed) Sanderson and Marilyn Brooks; nieces and nephews Deanna Thompson, Stacie Ritchie, Aly Nixon, Karen Nicholls, Stephen and Curtis Nixon, Bill Baptie and Scott Brooks.
Predeceasing John were his parents Eleanor and David Nixon; mother/father-in-law Iola and Claude Flanagan; brother-in-law Jim Brooks; and nephew Tom Baptie.
John had fond memories of his early years in Charleswood, visits with his grandparents Jack and Alice Shepherd, motor home trip to Alaska and living at “The Corner”. He enjoyed cottage life in Nopiming Provincial Park where there was always a project underway. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, waterskiing, curling, a friendly game of Hearts, listening to music and reading. He was very proud of his involvement with NNEPI and was a loyal Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. There was always a pet or two in his home, he created numerous flower beds for Diane, and they spent many hours watching and feeding the birds that came to the house and cottage.
John was a conscientious worker and developed many close friends throughout his career and personal life. Ill health unfortunately prevented John from enjoying the retirement he deserved.
On John’s behalf, I would like to thank all the staff at Selkirk Hospital for the excellent care he received and the compassion extended to him and myself.
In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation, PO Box 51064 RPO Tyndall, Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3C6; or Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3.
