January 27, 1926 ~ October 30, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Arseniuk, on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the age of 95 years. She passed quietly and gently with all of her family by her side.
She will be missed tremendously and lovingly remembered by her husband of 74 years, Harry, son Nick, daughters; Beatrice, Lori (David), Shirley (Bill), Phyllis (Kevin), grandchildren; Kristin, Jason (Chelsea), Lisa (Errol), Ryan (Kevin), Robin (Bruce), Melissa (Corb), Clayton (Dael), Brittney (Michael), great grandchildren; Brayden, Darius, Aiden, Ella, Harry, Eli, Archer; her brother Ben (Irene), numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by parents Philip and Beatrice Parkes; brothers, Philip, Clifford, Clarence, George, Robert, David, James, and sisters Eva Walsh and Ruby Relf; her son Benny and grandson Robby MacLean.
Joan was born to Philip and Beatrice Parkes. They moved to Brookfield in 1939, where she attended school.
Following in the footsteps of her father and brothers, on Nov 10, 1944, at the age of 18, Mom enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. After training in Ontario and Halifax, she was posted to Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg. She completed her service in Winnipeg until her honorable discharge August 6, 1946. She continued her work at Fort Osborne as a Civil Servant until leaving in 1947 to be married. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal 1939-45.
She and Dad married June 7, 1947. They settled in Lac du Bonnet and raised 6 children.
Mom worked as a baker at Atomic Energy Pinawa, and then the LDB Post Office until retirement.
Her family was always her first priority, and she made time for every one of us. She enjoyed scrabble, crocheting, playing cards. Until she left us, she did the cryptoquote, sudoku and crossword, as well as Words with Friends on facebook, every day.
Everyone that knew Mom, also knew that she especially loved a good cup of tea.
The family wishes to thank the Homecare staff for their ongoing daily visits. Thank you to Dr. Bruneau and the loving and caring Pinawa Hospital staff during her short stay there. Our family is so very grateful to Dr. Papetti. Her personal attention to Mom the past few years was above and beyond, and immensely appreciated.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 am at the Lac du Bonnet Community Centre, 25 McArthur, Lac du Bonnet.
As per current Manitoba Public Health orders, all attendees must show proof of double vaccination, provide government issued photo ID, and are required to wear masks while indoors.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to The Lac du Bonnet Legion Branch 164, Box 777, Lac du Bonnet, R0E 1A0, or to a charity of your choice.
Words our Mom lived by:
I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being;
Let me do it now.
Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
