1940 ~ 2014
With his family by his side at the Health Sciences center, Irvin passed away on July 22 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife of 45 years, Jo-Ann (nee Young), his children, Tracey (Blake), Michelle (Travis), Lori (Jim), Dean (Yvonne), and Grant (Kerri-Lynn). He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Dustin, Amanda, Matthew, Makayla, Brendan, and his 3 great-grandchildren, his brother Ben (Rose) , and several sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews.
Irvin married Jo-Ann in 1969, and brought her to Thompson Mb. where they raised their family. Dad worked for the City of Thompson, and then Manitoba Hydro until 1998. They then retired to Beausejour where he loved the country life and small town atmosphere. Dad’s favorite past times included singing and playing his guitar. He was also an avid wrestling fan all of his life, and recently had become a huge CFL fan.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Askarifar and the staff at Beausejour Hospital, and Dr. Houston and Barb at Cancer Care Manitoba for the care dad received during the past 17 months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Beausejour on Tuesday July 29 at 2:00 p.m.

I had the privilege of working with Irvin ( Rick)@ Manitoba Hydro Kelsey generating station. I still remember his singing and his Martin guitar he so often spoke about. I think if he didn’t have to work for hydro he might have given Johnny Cash a run for his money. Our condolences to his family, he was a great person to know

A great guy who will be sorely missed. Loved his family and friends, good times and steak well done.
I enjoyed visits with him and looked forward to the laughs.
Gone but certainly not forgotten.
Take care, old friend.

Rick was actually my cousin although we grew up calling him Uncle Rick at a young age. I will always remember when our families would get together while living here in Thompson and play guitar and spoons and sing and dance..oh those were the good old days! Now both Rick and my dad are doing what they do best in Heaven!! My condolences go out to Joanne and the family. May he rest in eternal peace. Love and miss you Rick!

So very sorry to hear of “Rick’s” passing. A good friend and employee at Gillam Services, then renewed our friendship at the Kelsey GS. Will remember Rick’s wholesome laugh!
Sincere condolences to the family. He will surely be missed!
