1934 – 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Esther Trojanowski. Helen died peacefully on October 23rd, 2023, at the age of 89, at East Gate Personal Care Home in Beausejour, Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her parents John “Jack” and Hannah Panno; her first husband Walter; her brother Harold; and her second husband Julian.
Helen will be remembered by her sons Raymond, Gordon (Regina), and Leonard (Elena); grandsons Forrest and Stanley; step children Judy, John, Paul, and Dave, Bruce (Peggy), Sharon and Billy. As well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins and nieces.
Helen was born in Scott, Saskatchewan on July 23rd, 1934. She grew up in and around many small towns in rural Saskatchewan. She went to small one room schoolhouses, which she and her brother Harold walked many miles to (or as tale was told occasionally rode cows) when it was warm, and in a horse drawn sleigh with a heated rock in a blanket when it was cold. Helen was a good student (especially in math), and enjoyed playing many sports, but her favourite was baseball.
She moved to Winnipeg in her 20’s to work as a bookkeeper. When her car was in need of service she would take it to Westend Motors where she met Walter Peterson. Walter and Helen were married in 1964. Walter had four children from a previous marriage, which were followed by three more boys together. The family enjoyed many summers at their cabins in Gull Lake. Walter and Helen were planning to retire there, and were in the process of building a new house, when sadly Walter passed away in 1979. After his passing she continued on with this plan and moved the family there in 1981. She worked at the Western Canada Lottery Corp until her retirement in 1996.
She met Julian Trojanowski in 1985. Helen and Julian were married in 1987 and had 30 great years together. Julian became a stepfather to her three boys, and Helen’s family became even larger with the addition of his three children and grandchildren. They enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing crib, going to hockey and baseball games, bowling, golfing, fishing, travelling and time with family. Julian passed away in 2014.
Helen spent her final years at East Gate care home in Beausejour. We’d like to thank all the staff at East Gate that took such truly great care of her through this time.
Following cremation a private family service will be held in Gull Lake, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society Manitoba, or to The Winnipeg Humane Society.

I lived just down the road from Helen in the log home she helped build in Gullake, raising her 3 boys. Rode the school bus with Gordon, Raymond and Leonard. I recall one of the boys made leather moccasins and I bought a pair. Just a few old memories.
My condolences to the Family.

So sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. I remember when she came to live at EGL. We went for a walk thru the building and when she seen the courtyard she said we should build a small golf course in there. Lol. We had many talks about her travels to Winnipeg to work and about the boys shenanigans. She had such a great sense of humour. Till you meet again.

My thoughts and prayers are with all Helens’ family. My memories of Helen are the years we Curled together in Beausejour and the fun times we had travelling to different towns in Manitoba competing in the Golden Girls Competitions. May she Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences in the loss of your mother. Helen was a wonderful person and Gary and I enjoyed spending time with them often. Helen and Uncle Julian would come to our cabin at Bird River on a regular basis and we would have a few games of crib. Helen and I were partners against the boys! I will always have fond memories of her. May she rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to you, Helen’s family.
She was a pleasure to know, to play cards with and to golf with.
She and Julian were wonderful neighbors.
