It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Heather Prost, beloved wife of Norman of 38 years of marriage, and dearly loved mom of Katelyn (fiancé Peter Doroshuk) on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital at the age of 59 years. She will also be sorely missed by her brother Rick (Gladys) Derksen, sisters Marlene Sobering and Carol (Reg) Harder and Norm’s brothers and sisters Ken (Liz), Gerry (Darlene), Gordon, Marlene (Vic) Naworynski, Bev (Gerald) Kornelson, and Fran (Fraser) Kulba, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Eugene and Helen Derksen, brother-in-law Doug Sobering, nephew Brett Sobering and mother and father-in-law Gertie and Stan Prost.
Born on February 7, 1961, Heather lived her entire life in Steinbach graduating from SRSS. She loved her job at Derksen Printers where she was employed for 41 years in the graphic arts dept. until she became ill.
Heather was a kind and loving person who enjoyed the simple things in life and being out with family and friends. She loved shopping, taking hours to pick out just the right thing. She loved going out for breakfast on Saturday with her siblings and going out for suppers with the girls from work. Heather enjoyed road trips and travelling to Mexico with her daughter and sisters, deciding that Los Cabos had the best desserts. She just loved and adored Kate and was always open to Kate bringing home unusual and interesting pets which she would help lovingly care for. Her dog Soko was always waiting for her at the door.
Together, Norm and Heather would go for drives finding the most interesting places along the way. Whenever someone would mention a new restaurant, you could be sure Norm had already taken Heather there.
The last few years had been a challenge for Heather as she battled with cancer. She never complained throughout her treatments. When her cancer returned, the complications that came with it were just too hard to overcome.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and all the caregivers at the Health Sciences Centre and the Bethesda Regional Hospital for their care during this difficult time.
At Heather’s request, no formal service will be held.
A Poem for Heather
Good night Heather, good night.
We will all miss you,
especially husband Norm and daughter Katelyn.
Our faith in God will carry us through
And you will be in a safe place with Mom and Dad
Two shining stars will guide you to their place in heaven.
Someday our family will meet again at Falcon Lake
for potato salad and farmer sausage,
Good night, good night sweet Heather
You’ll always be in our hearts.

My heart is broken for the loss of Heather.
It was such a pleasure to work with her.
I miss our Friday morning breakfasts.
She was so easy to talk to, and always had an ear to listen.
My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.

Norm,
I want to offer my deepest sympathy to you and your family.
I will always remember chatting with Heather at the back doors of Derksen Printers, as I was warming up the truck and Heather having a smoke break. I told her many a time she needed to find a warmer past time.
The fond memories will carry you and your daughter thru this difficult time.

To Norm & Katelyn & also Heather’s siblings:
I got to know Heather in high school and we both graduated in the same year.
What I remember about Heather is that she was a very happy person always had a smile on her face and had an extremely giving and loving heart.
I only found out she was terminally ill a week before she passed away. I ran into Rick and Gladys in Santa Lucia’s parking lot & through a conversation with Rick found out the news. As I walked away to my car with a very heavy heart I was struck with an inspiring thought to write her a note and I know this was definitely a thought put in my head through our loving God. I managed to finish the note and run back to Rick and Gladys before they left and give it to them and Rick said he would give it to her the next day. She has been in my prayers and thoughts constantly till I got the news today that she had passed so at this time I send you all my heartfelt sympathies and at the same time I rejoice because I know without a doubt Heather is up in heaven in the arms of our loving God & is pain free.
For those of us that she left behind we will always carry her in our memories & in our hearts.
Rest In Peace Heather…till we meet again

My deepest sympathies to Norm and Kate and all of Heather’s siblings. My memories of Heather are only of her as a little child. I remember when she was born. Her name was so unique to me. She was a very loved and doted on child and I’m sure she became more precious to you all as the years passed. Our parents were such close friends and they will be welcoming her now into their arms.

Our prayers are with Norm and Katelyn and the entire family. I have known Heather all my life through a special friendship with Rick and Gladys. Heather was so kind to all she met. She was taken far too soon, but having said this, she is in a much better place now, united with her mother and father.
No words of comfort can readily erase the heartache, but know that God will be with you and will comfort you in ways you may not currently know.
May God be with you all at this difficult time.
Marcia and Robin Hill

I have good childhood memories of us Kroeker girls playing in the neighbourhood with Heather and Beverley and John Banman.
The last time I saw Heather was five years ago, when my parents and I bumped into Heather, Rick and Gladys, Carol and Marlene enjoying one of their siblings breakfasts at MJ’s Cafe.
My condolences to Norm, Katelyn and the Derksen family.
