Halina Brincheski

1928 ~ 2013

Halina Brincheski passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Friday, November 29, 2013.

She was predeceased by her beloved John, who passed away in 1990, and is survived by her sons Bobby (Margie) and Glen (Donna Lee).  She is also survived by her pride and joy, her six grandchildren: Gloria (fiancé Mike), Patrick, Eric, Stuart, Tyler (Darcie), and Brett; as well as her two great grandchildren Hailey and Hunter.

Mom was born in Tysakow, Poland December 24, 1928.  Like many others, Mom suffered through the hardships of the Second World War.  She arrived in Canada in 1948, without even being able to speak any English.  Here she met John, and married in 1950.  Mom used to say that when they came to Lac du Bonnet, there were only two streets and they were both mud.

Halina took great pride in being able to whip up a superb meal, whether it be at harvest time for the men out in the field, or at a remote construction site that Dad was working.

Mom was involved in the community, at first with the Cub Scouts, then with the Legion Ladies Auxillary, as well as with the Food Bank.

Mom’s eye sight began to fail, and she was unable to see.  Yet, to the end, she couldn’t understand why we wouldn’t let her drive anymore.  Even though she couldn’t see, her hearing remained sharp.  She loved her CJOB and would frequently offer her version of the news of the day.

She loved hearing about what her grandkids were up to; her granddaughter Gloria running a marathon as well as appearing in the Fringe Festival in Winnipeg; her grandsons Patrick, Tyler and Brett all buying themselves houses; Eric completing his welding ticket; and Stuart going to Australia to learn different farming techniques.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Lac du Bonnet Legion, Lac du Bonnet, MB.  A private interment will be held in spring, once Stuart is back from Australia.  She can then rest, knowing he made it safely home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lac du Bonnet Food Bank or a charity of one’s choice.

Say “hi” to Dad for us, Mom
