We sadly announce the passing of Gwen Anne Campbell, née Hunchak.
She is survived by her husband Colin, son Dean (Margaret), daughter Cheryl (Curt), grandchildren Jamie (Yibo), Will, Sarah and Wes, her sisters Virginia Mathews and Florence Zayac (Julian), her sisters-in-law Joan (Don), Heather, Donna, and many nieces and nephews.
Gwen was a person who will always be remembered for being able to make good things happen and getting the job done. She was an intelligent, independent thinking, determined, and caring individual. These were qualities she also brought to her nursing career, having worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and personal care homes in Winnipeg and other places for 25 years.
She was a good and true friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed life and made the most of it. Her family was most important to her, and she loved them with all her heart. Quick to enjoy a good story, or joke, or spirited debate, and always a guiding force at family gatherings. Her memory will always be one of a loving, caring, and exceptional person. Most of all, she will be remembered for her nonjudgemental, insightful, one word comment on the unusual and unexpected happenings that always made you smile: “HONESTLY!”
We have a most caring, kind, and professional medical and home care staff. Our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Michel Bruneau, Lac du Bonnet, Dr. Cjaykowski, Dr. Koul, and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, and to the exceptional nurses and staff at Pine Falls and Pinawa hospitals. Thank you so much to all for your helping make Gwen as comfortable as possible in her final days.
A private family service will take place at a future date.

I am so saddened by the passing of aunt Gwen, so many fond memories of her while growing up in Lac du bonnet and time spent on my grand parents family farm. Our deepest condolences to her family and many friends. I take solace in knowing she is no longer in pain and reunited with our family in heaven.

Gwen was a wonderful sister-in-law to me. She welcomed me into the family with open arms when I married Pete and always thereafter. Gwen and I spent many hours talking on the phone during her battle with cancer. She put up a good fight. She always had a positive attitude and continued to have a sense of humour. I will miss her dearly.
May all the wonderful memories you shared together somehow substain you in your time of sorrow.

On behalf of the Barlishen family, our condolences to Colin, Dean, Cheryl and the rest of the family. Gwen was a tremendously important lifelong friend of our parents, Frank and Diane. Along with Colin , they shared many fun outings and visits with many laughs and lots of stories. As kids, we spent lots of time in the Campbell basement while our parents visited well into the night. I was always happy when popping in for a visit to my parents, to find Colin and Gwen in the living room, and Gwen would turn to say hi with that smile and twinkle in her eye.

I met Gwen when we both worked evenings at Meadowood Manor PCH in Winnipeg. Gwen was an excellent nurse and provided strong leadership and guidance to the staff she supervised. Gwen had an abundance of common sense which I so appreciated and tapped into on many occasions. While Gwen took her nursing responsibilities seriously, she also had a wonderful sense of humour which made for a healthy work environment. Gwen was well liked and respected by all who worked with her. I have fond memories of break times where we shared stories about our growing families. She was so proud of Dean and Cheryl and their accomplishments. It was a privilege and a pleasure working with Gwen and the world is a sadder place without her. My heartfelt condolences to Colin, Dean, Cheryl and the extended family.

Uncle Colin and family – I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad I was able to visit with the family in 2023. Aunt Gwen’s graduation from nursing impressed me so much as a teenage that when I married I carried an arm bouquet of red roses. Jamie you will be so sad that Grandma will not be at you upcoming wedding. My heart goes out to you.
