October 27, 1978 ~ March 5, 2022
Gregory Clifford Sachvie, beloved son, brother, cousin and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 5, 2022. Greg will be lovingly remembered by his parents Clifford & Doreen Sachvie, his sisters Tracy (Kurt Weber) and Alison (Scott Kopansky) and his niece Sadie and nephew Max along with his many, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Greg was 43 years old.
Greg, or as many knew him, “Chopper” or “Chops”, grew up in Winnipeg’s North Kildonan neighborhood. He graduated high school from River East Collegiate and studied agriculture at the University of Manitoba. Greg returned to the family’s rural roots, living in Beausejour MB and choosing a career that had him working with the farming community. Greg loved his work with Nutrien Ag Solutions and all of the camaraderie he shared with his farming clientele.
Greg enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and quading with friends and cousins throughout the years. Greg loved and enjoyed the many people in his life. He would routinely stop in somewhere for a visit on his way home from work or welcome a friend into his garage for a laugh and to catch up. Or, if he hadn’t seen you in a while he would be calling or texting to connect. When Greg asked you about how you were, he really wanted to know. And no one could make Greg smile and laugh as much of as the kids in his life. ‘Uncle’ Greg was always ready with a quick teasing word, an offer of a cheeky pinchy and sharing the change in his pocket.
Greg was passionate about food and enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with others. He was always proud of his culinary pursuits and if you were fortunate you got to share in the results – a perfectly grilled steak or pork chop, his home made sausage or something delectable straight out of his meat smoker.
A Memorial service will be held for Greg at 10:30 am on March 17, 2022 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB. If you choose to join us at the service in the chapel we ask that you wear a mask. We are so sorry to hear about the death of Greg. We hope God was with him when he died. In times when we wonder why things happen we find it helpful to hold to what we do know to be true. Greg was created by God, loved by God, redeemed by God, and spared from death a few times already by God. Jesus died on the cross for all. To those who believe He gives eternal life. No one should lose a child or a younger sibling. Yet these things happen and remind us we live in a world that is tainted by sin. That is precisely why God sent His one and only Son. So we could be forgiven and have eternal life. May the fact that God is gracious and loving as clearly indicated by the cross bring you peace and comfort at this tragic time. Hold each other even closer and thank God for the One who overcame death and the grave, Jesus Christ, the One who Carrie’s our burdens and sorrows. God bless. You are all in our prayers.

Cliff, Doreen, Tracy, Curt, Ali, Scott, Sadie, Max and the entire Sachvie/Loeb families, we are so sorry for your sudden loss. Our sincerest condolences; our hearts and thoughts are with you all during this difficult time on the passing of Greg. He always spoke fondly of his family, especially Sadie and Max, looked forward to his weekend visits and supper with his parents and his visits with Uncle Ron on the farm. He was always so good to us, especially or children, treating them as if they were his own. He was a kid at heart, always playing with them, crawling around at their level, never afraid to get dirty or wet, filling their pockets with change and treats, having ice cream dates until they licked the plates clean (including Greg), horseback rides across the yard to the trampoline; to then use him as a stool to help them get in, planting flowers in the garden, dancing in the rain, always making them laugh and encouraging and instigating shenanigans. We’ll miss our yearly Halloween drop in’s to show off their costumes and hit the candy jackpot, emptying whatever he had into their bags. Always joking, always laughing, always positive. We hope that you can find a little comfort in knowing that Greg was well loved and touched the lives and hearts of many. We will miss your kind heart, your infectious smile and larger than life laugh. We were grateful to have had a friend like Greg in our lives. You have left a void in our lives and we are heartbroken. We will miss you dearly Greg. RIP

Cliff, Doreen, Ali, Scott, Sadie, Max and Tracy.
We are so sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. He always remained a part of our lives and in our hearts. Greg was always so good to Nash and loved giving him “tours” of his garden and showing Nash what was what and how things grow, playing cheeky pinchy when he was a baby, teaching him ” hi, my names chubby”, giving him lawn tractor rides in the summer, which Nash thought was the best thing ever. Greg always, always had a kind heart and wanted to help where he could. Every summer he would show up with his backpack sprayer and pretend to be a Ghostbuster getting rid of all my weeds in the yard, bringing nana and I patio tomato plants and also growing tomatoes in his own garden so we could always grab some whenever we wanted. He always loved filling me in on what you filled his freezer with Doreen, or what new stories Cliffy had shared. He loved talking about Sadie and Max and that Sadie was getting a little too cute for her own good and he was worried about what boys would be coming around. Greg had a heart of gold and could make everyone he talked to have the biggest belly laughs possible. He will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. I know we will. Sending lots of love to you guys.

Deepest condolences to your families on the sudden passing of Greg (Chopper). Greg was known as Uncle Greg to our kids. He always had a big smile on his face and would spend that extra 2 minutes to acknowledge our kids, which always meant a lot. Greg was well known in our farming community and was a wealth of knowledge about anything farm related. He lived, breathed and loved farming. He will always be remembered by his good nature, big smile and contagious laugh. Greg will certainly be missed during our farm busy season, as he was always just a phone call away for any issues or questions we (Jeremy) had. Biggest condolences to your families.

Greg was good friends with my brother Jon Zirk who passed away in 2003. He was always friendly and polite when he came over and always won Jeopardy when we all watched and played together after they would come after school. After my brother passed away, my parents were away for a time and didn’t want me home alone- so Greg and another friend of Jon’s stayed at our house to make sure I was okay. I am very thankful that he was willing to do that.
Greg was kind, easy going, and a good friend to my brother. I am so very sorry for your loss.
My prayers are with your family.

Our deepest condolences to all of Gregs loved ones! Always a friendly face and helpful at his job whenever we needed anything, even if it was to lend a sympathetic ear when we were complaining about the weather or the insects impacting our crops! We always enjoyed his stop ins at the restaurant for the 10 years we ran it! You will be missed by many…gone way too soon….wishing you a safe journey…Im sure my dad will be waiting to have a sit down at the table and talk some farming with you and enjoy a good meal together!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. Having worked with Chopper is a memory of someone who worked hard and played hard. Always concerned about the well being of others and never failed to put others first before himself regardless if it was friends, coworkers or customers. Those of us who work in agriculture know that it doesn’t matter when the business changes by mergers, name changes or other business decisions divide us, we are part of the same world and it’s a small world where our paths cross often. I’ll look forward to the day that my path may cross with Choppers again. Thinking today of the Sachvie Family, and of Choppers customers, friends, coworkers – Very sorry for your loss, and I know our memories of Chopper will live on.

Our heartfelt condolences are with your entire family at this time. Greg had a wonderful heart. Always smiling with that sparkle in his eye. He was a great friend and he will be missed so much. I’m sure Greg and my dad (Eric) are up in heaven catching up on lost time and reminiscing of the good old days.
Greg has left beautiful memories and so much love to all that knew him. ♥️
