Gordon William Asmundson

April 29, 1944 ~ March 4, 2024

After a courageous battle with cancer, Gordon passed in the comfort of his home, with family at his side.

Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Brandice, of 55 years; his three children Tracy (Dave), Conrad (Karen), Jann (Todd) and grandchildren Conor (Randie), Dylan, Sean (Kirsten), Brandon, Emily, Kyle, Hunter, Ari and Eve, as well as his sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was born into a loving family of 10 and raised in Piney, Manitoba.

He is survived by his sisters Louise, Winnie, Edna and twin sister Grace (Helmar).  He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Carl and Anna, and his brothers Calvin, Edward and Earl and his sisters, Lillian and Aldis, and precious nieces and nephews.

At the age of 19, Gordon met his beautiful wife at a dance.  For many years they were a delight to watch on the dance floor.  He enjoyed Brandi’s fabulous cooking, living in the country, and spending time with family and friends.

He was employed for 29 years in the Woodlands operation in Pine Falls, Manitoba, where he worked hard to provide for his family.  We were proud of the man he was and the work ethic he had, he in turn, would say his greatest source of pride was the university education and careers his three children achieved.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsmen, a passion he instilled in his children and grandchildren.  Some of his fondest memories were at the cabin at Donner Lake with his family and dearest friends, Doc and Eric.

Affectionately known as “Spud” and “the Boss” he was a kind man and someone you could count on for a helping hand and a listening ear, whether he knew you for a minute or a decade.  He was a beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, honorary dad, coffee buddy and friend to many.  He was the best grandfather and will be dearly missed by his grandchildren who admired, respected and loved him fiercely.  His legacy of love for family and kindness to all will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed but will live forever in our hearts and thoughts.

In keeping with Gordon’s wishes, no service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.

After reading the life story of grandpa, I can tell he really lived his life, met the love of his life at 19 and stick with her forever! he raised his three kids and all of them are successful, that’s really something to brag about! I wish I can meet grandpa earlier, he will take me to hunt and fish like my grandpa used to do and I bet we will get along well and enjoy time together. Rest in peace grandpa, the bravest man I’ve ever met and best wishes to the family.

Deepest condolences to everyone in the family, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I got to know Gord throughout the past 12 years. He was a good man, great father and a great teacher who I will always respect and remember. I’ll miss the times coming over to help him get the tractor going or to pull Emily‘s vehicle out of the ditch. Until we meet again my friend

So sorry to hear of your loss, Brandy, Tracy, Conrad and Jan, and family.
It was so nice to have you for our neighbours for many years and a babysitter so close. Thank you Jan.❤ Remember the bird cage incident Mom (Brandy) came and assisted, her Daughter, lol Amen for that. We never seen too much of each other, but every so often the boys had their lawn mowers out and than that’s when they would strike up conversations, especially when my Dad was out in the yard .
You have a wonderful kind Family,Gordie,❤ May you rest in Peace !!
Blessings, from one of your old Neighbors,
