November 5, 1949 – July 14, 2022

Josh, 72, passed away July 14th at the Whitemouth PCH after a courageous battle with COPD.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Grace Kost and Shirley Speers and nieces Karen, Sharon, Diane, Nancy and nephews Anthony and Jonathan and their families.

Josh worked as an aircraft mechanic for Man. Government Air Service until its closure in Lac du Bonnet.

His greatest love was playing music. Talented in all stringed instruments plus even the tuba. He was popular among his musical friends plus the audiences that came to hear him sing and play the Wabash Cannonball.

He was a willing volunteer to the organization he belonged to including the food bank, the community garden, and the Catholic Church. His outstanding memory was a tremendous help to the Lac du Bonnet Historical Society as well. Josh was a great storyteller and was always up on world news and current events.

He was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Katherine Nejedly, brother in-law Robert.

A public celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at the Notre Dame du Lac Roman Catholic Church, in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Papetti and the Whitemouth Personal Care Home staff for all the kindness shown to him during his stay there.

Be kind and keep the music going!

I would like to extend my sympathies to Josh’s family at this time of great sadness. I have so many fond memories of making music with Josh in the bands, ‘Six Guys Named Josh’ and later, ‘The Ain’t No Mountain Boys’. I treasure the times we had practicing, playing gigs and just jamming…..usually at the Kost house in Lac du Bonnet. I recall being in the middle of a fun filled jam and several buckets of chicken would arrive…..thanks to the generosity of Josh. I loved it when Josh would grab an acoustic guitar and play the neat licks to old Marty Robbins songs that I loved to sing. He was amazing.

He loved playing the dobro and was a big part of our bluegrass band as we played coffee houses and concerts in communities like Lac du Bonnet and Beauseour. We played the West End Cultural Centre many times as well as the Morden Back 40 Festival and the Kenora waterfront many times. A high light for all of us was playing the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Josh was always able to provide tasty licks on his dobro. I remember how excited he was to receive his new dobro from one of the top builders in the business.

Josh will be missed by the bluegrass community and his family for his larger than life persona. Rest In Peace Josh but keep the music going with Robert.

Condolence from Nancy DeGagne on July 19th, 2022 12:17 pm

Many a time my family would visit Ladywood and Lac du Bonnet and at family gatherings I remember Josh playing the tuba with the rest of the family musicians while the ladies danced to the wonderful music they produced. He was a kind person and followed an interesting path in life. Condolences to cousins Gracie and Shirley and their families.

My Gramma and I thoroughly enjoyed played with Josh at the Farmer’s Market in LDB. He knew so many songs and I loved to hear him play the dobro, I bought myself one, and hope one day to be able to play it like Josh.
