It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie and sister, Gertrude Betker, with her forever watchful daughter Cindy by her side, on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the age of 85 at Beausejour Hospital.
Gertie was predeceased by her husband George, parents Alvina and Jacob, siblings Lilly, Jake, Victor, John, George and Edward. She is survived by her brother Fred (Marie); children David, Garry (Donna), Gerald (Sandy), Bruce (Tammy), Cindy, Fred (Leanne); grandchildren Sheree, Shaun, Nicole, Jennifer, Jaime, Jessica, Kerry, Clint, Magen, Chad, Lance, Dusten and Shelby; and 10 great grandchildren.
Mom was born and raised in Lydiatt, sixth in line of 8 children. Mom and dad got married in 1954, starting their family of 6 children shortly after, on the farm in Seddons Corner, MB.
Mom’s life revolved around running the farm with her children’s help while dad worked off the farm for many years. They started the dairy together in 1974 – 1996. In mom’s retirement years her life revolved around her vegetable and flower gardens and keeping her grandchildren in line. When she sold the farm after dad’s passing in 1997, she continued to live in Seddons Corner area until her passing. She loved the community and did not want to leave the area when she sold the farm.
She was the forever watchful eye of Seddons. Not too much happened outside the living room window without her noticing… when the hummingbirds, crows and robin came back in spring and left in the fall, animals passing through the yard, and peoples coming and goings. She enjoyed family and friends dropping in to visit, but was not one to leave the sanctuary of her home being the homebody she was.
Her loving nature and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
We would like to thank Dr. Partyka and all the Beausejour clinic and hospital staff for their above and beyond care they gave mom and her family while she had been in their caring hands for the last 7 months and the many times over the years before that. As well the staff at East Gate Lodge. Her time there was very brief but their care and compassion was again above and beyond.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave, E in Beausejour with viewing an hour prior. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 301-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.

My sincere condolences to Cindy and the boys, Fred, Marie, and the rest of her family. She was such an inspiration to me and I loved her dearly, I will always keep memories of her close to my heart.
Last visit at the hospital all she spoke of was her beautiful grandkids and getting home.

My heart is in pain at the passing of my oldest and dearest friend. Gertie was my rock when I needed one, she was a source of wisdom, understanding and caring whenever you needed a friend to talk to. I will cherish her friendship,

My deepest condolences to Cindy and the boys. My memories of Auntie Gertie will always stay close to my heart, even though I haven’t been back to Seddon’s Corner in many years. She will be sadly missed by many. RIP dear, sweet Angel.

I went to school (Corral) with Gertrude and her brothers , such a long time ago they were a great family, like all of us, they struggled thru the hard times…

This is very sad news. I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Auntie Gertie. I remember her as such a very hard worker and always looking after her family. My sincere condolences to the family. You are always in my heart with such fond memories of you all. Xoxo
