January 11, 1953 ~ September 15, 2019
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear daughter, Georgina, on September 15, with family and friends by her side, after a five long year courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her parents, George and Ruth; her special angels, Loretta and Ann; uncles, aunts, numerous cousins and friends.
Born in Beausejour, MB on January 11, 1953, Georgina grew up in the Golden Bay area. She moved to Winnipeg to finish her grade 12 and then graduated from her nurse’s training at Misericordia Hospital, continuing on at the Victoria Hospital for 42 years of caring for all her patients with love and kindness.
Retiring in 2016, she continued caring for her parents with love.
She was a strong yet gentle lady who was always there for her family and friends. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone.
Her greatest joy was tinkering on various farm equipment with her dad, cooking with her mom various dishes of German foods, looking after her puppy Laddie, and meeting with family and friends for lunch, theatre or dinner.
Thank you to Dr. Sharkey and the staff on the 5th floor of the Victoria Hospital for making her last day comfortable and special. Thank you to her friends, Ann, Donna and Mark for taking her to her treatments at CancerCare at HSC. Thank you to the CancerCare Unit for looking after her well.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba https://www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca or the Winnipeg Humane Society https://www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca.
She will be dearly missed; a void that cannot be filled as we move forward remembering her strength, caring and loving nature.

So sorry to read this in today’s paper as I didn’t know she was ill. She was one of the best urology nurses to work for/with at the Vic and always put her patients first. She was most concerned and caring and gave it her all when it came to providing the best of care. It was a pleasure to work with her all those years….Dr J

It is with great sadness that I read of Georgina’s passing. She was a wonderful friend and I am sad that we didn’t keep in touch. I will always remember her on her birthday as she was so excited when my eldest son was born on the same day.
