Frieda Steinke (nee German) passed away peacefully at the Beausejour Hospital on August 26, 2021 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Rudolph (Rudy) of 68 years, daughter Sharol, her brother, two sisters, two half-brothers, 2 half-sisters, and her parents. She was a beloved mother to Glenn (Terry), Darlene (Wayne) Omichinski, Dallen (Sherry), Sharol (Glenn) Collard and Ken. She was a very proud grandmother of 13 and great grandmother of 14.
Frieda always lived close to where she was born and raised. She stayed at home to raise her children and look after the farm chores while Rudy went out to work. She was a very active person with a passion for gardening, canning, reading, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, quilting, baking and decorating cakes. No matter what she created, they were works of art which she poured in all her love and great imagination into. She enjoyed travelling with Rudy to the US, BC and Alberta to visit family and the annual fruit run every fall. In her later years she travelled to Europe and the UK with her son Ken and granddaughter Vanessa to see the sites and visit some long lost and found relatives. She loved to watch football on TV and had the honor to lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers onto the football field dressed in costume (of her own creation) as “Miss Blue Bomber”, which she did with great pride and energy.
As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Box 968,403 1st Street N., Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
Thank you to the 5ACCU staff at St. Boniface and staff at Beausejour Hospitals for the care and compassion they showed mom throughout her stay.
Rest in peace Mom
We know you are dancing with the angels.
We all miss you.

Please accept my condolences. Aunt Frieda was extra special to me because I was the flower girl in her wedding. She was so energetic and friendly to everyone. Not only is she dancing with the angels she is most likely the choreographer…..

My sincere condolences to all of you on Frieda’s passing. Your mother had such a wide knowledge of all things garden-related and I especially enjoyed my conversations with her about tomatoes, clearly a passion for her. She was such a friendly and welcoming person who made anyone who met her immediately comfortable in her presence. Heaven is a more wonderful place with her there, but there’s an empty place here on earth that can’t be filled by anyone else. God Bless You all as you mourn this loss.

My deepest condolences, to Ken and family. Frieda was a true “old-world”, sincerely kind person, always outgoing and friendly, a joy to be around. Right now she is probably telling the Lord about what it was like down here, and offering to help out. I will remember her love of gardens and her determined spirit. May God comfort you and dry your tears, for things are better Over There.

Mrs. Steinke was one of those wonderful women of her generation who were simply too busy to grow old. I met her in the Co-op a year ago and she told me she was 90 and still working in the garden. What a long and joyful life she lived. Condolences from a fellow gardener.
Cindy Matychak
My sincere condolences to your family.
May God’s Grace be with your family during this difficult time.
