It is with loving memories and sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frank Szalai.
Frank leaves to mourn his loving wife Mary of 35 years.
Frank is survived by his brothers John, George (Ginnie), Otto (Rhonda), Tibor (Heidi), Alex (Darlene), and Joseph; sisters Natalie Schinkel (Marvin) and Terry Steinke (Glenn), brothers-in-law Joseph Artner of Hungary, Steve Zachar (Annette), sisters-in-law Lois Szalai, Irene Zachar, Anne Zachar and Doreen Zachar, as well as numerous nephews and nieces in Canada, the USA and Hungary.
Frank will be missed by numerous friends and his three feline buddies Pooker, Gillam and Felix.
Frank was predeceased by his parents John and Viktoria Szalai, brother Peter, sister Klara Artner, mother-in-law Apolonia Zachar, brothers-in-law Fred, John, Joe, Ernie Hildebrandt and sister-in-law Annie Hildebrandt and uncle Ferdinand Karas.
Frank was born in Nagylozs, Hungary and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1957. He was a jack of all trades working in construction, building homes in Beausejour and northern Manitoba as well as running heavy equipment. Frank was always ready to give a helping hand and freely gave his advice whether it was wanted or not.
Frank’s passion was doing crossword puzzles in ink (the harder the better), gardening, hunting, fishing, wicker work, cooking, and was a great story teller.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Frank’s life was held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB with Pastor Harold Borchardt officiating. Private family interment to follow at a later date.
If friends so desire, a memorial donation may be made in Frank’s name to the Beausejour Hospital TV Fund.
