1945 ~ 2018
Frank passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Pinawa Hospital from a cancer related illness.
Frank was born in the Netherlands in 1945 arriving in Lac du Bonnet with his parents Ted and Alida along with his three sisters Thea, Mia and Joanna. He was predeceased by his parents and youngest son Jonathan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Pat, 3 children; Ted (Sandra), Maureen and Robert, 7 grandchildren; Alex, Katherine, Theoren, Cleo, Dorothy, Aiden and Morgan as well as his 3 sisters.
After completing high school in Lac du Bonnet, Frank moved onto a long career in the banking business with CIBC. This took him to many communities in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario including Carman, MB where he met Patricia Giesbrecht, his wife of many years. Travelling those many years took him to Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Emo, Lynn Lake and back to Thunder Bay for more than 25 years. Integrating into those communities was made easier by joining service clubs, fraternities and volunteer groups. These included Kinsmen Clubs in Winnipeg, Emo and Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Fort William Rotary Club (Thunder Bay), and Scouts Canada (Thunder Bay). He was active in Free Masons Shuniah Lodge #287 and Winnipeg River Lodge #154. He was a past member of Khartum Temple Shrine Club in Thunder Bay, The York Rite and Scottish Rite (32°).
During all those years Frank and family maintained the cottage in Lac du Bonnet and built another home there in 2006. Not willing to give up community related affairs, Frank was an early Board Member of the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation. That not being enough, he became a councillor for the R.M. of Lac du Bonnet in 2013. This necessitated sitting on numerous Boards and Committees including: Community Futures, Regional Airport Authority, Community Development Corp., Lac du Bonnet Historical Society, Municipal Heritage Advisory Comm., Two Rivers Senior Services (including Handivan). He was busy.
Frank was appreciative of the spiritual support of his churches, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thunder Bay and the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Lac du Bonnet. They helped maintain his faith.
Funeral Service will be on Friday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Lac du Bonnet. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Lac du Bonnet Legion Br #164.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation, PO Box 744 Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0.
