Frances Kuz (nee Bynski)

It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Frances Kuz on Saturday, July 29, 2017, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Ellen (Lester), Darin (Colleen), Alison (Garry) and Ryan (Lindsay), grandchildren Nolan, Erin, Shannon, Joel and Darien, brother Charlie (Johanna), sister in-law Lena, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born in Winnipeg in 1939 and grew up on the family farms, first in Green Bay and later in Whitemouth.  She married our dad in 1961 and moved to Rennie where they ran the Rennie Hotel.  Later on in life she took great pride and pleasure with her little coffee shop, Franny’s.

During Mom’s time, she was the staple of life: she worked long, hard hours without complaint, raised her family, was an active community member and still had time to keep a close relationship with family and friends.

Mom lived a simple life and loved to laugh.  She always found the good in people.  She loved nature, looked forward to every berry season and was famous for her pies and other baking.

Her children and grandchildren meant more to her than anything.  She taught us that family was the most treasured thing in life.  Words cannot describe how much she loved, and how much she was loved in return.

Flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation may be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 9Z9, or Salvation Army, 204-290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2N8.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Recreation Centre.

Some of my first memories are of my grandparents taking me to her coffee shop for lunch on the way to the lake. Later when I worked in town she always made me feel welcome. She was a great part of the town and will be missed.

As a child I remember visiting the Bynski home down the dirt road in Whitemouth. Always, prominently placed on a shelf in the living room, was a beautiful picture of Frances, the daughter they adored and praised for her intelligence. Many years later, I ended up teaching in Whitemouth School and met Frances in person. I came to know her true contribution to life through the four children she sent to Whitemouth School, Ellen, Darin, Alison, and Ryan. Each of these distinctive characters brought many gifts to the school and indeed made my life as a teacher joyful and much easier. I am grateful for all they offered. Through her own life and the lives of her children, Frances has contributed much to the world and she will be remembered and appreciated by all who knew her. Through her children I had the privilege of appreciating and learning about what a woman can humbly and gently accomplish by hard work and determination. I am thinking of all of you and write this to let you know I remember and appreciate your gifts and offer you my deepest sympathy. You are very special people.

To the Kuz family. We are so sorry for your loss. Franny was the nicest person, she made sure the newcomers to Rennie were made to feel welcome, as she did to our family so long ago. I’m so happy that we had a nice visit at Rennie Hotel this June. It was so special . She will be missed by so many RIP❤️

We have nothing but fond memories of Franny. She was one of the first people I met when we arrived in Canada. I had the best breakfasts at Franny’s and my first perogy experience and from then on was a Perogy snob. Thank you Wally and Franny for always making me feel welcome back to Rennie , her smile and cheery personality will be greatly missed.

Condolences to the Kuz family from the Pearson.

    To all the families,
I am so sad. Your Mom and Dad were such a prominent part of our “Rennie” lives. Your Mom always had a smile and your Dad a good story. Franny burgers (the best of all time) and her wonderful blueberry pies will never be forgotten.

Everyone who knew Franny loved her for her welcome and beautiful smile. She was the best cook and hostess in her little coffee shop and I enjoyed each time I went there. Never missed having that wonderful lemon pie. Such a wonderful person. We will all miss her. My deepest condolences to all her family. Carol Ans

She will be very missed in the community, I always enjoyed stopping by for a little visit and laugh with both Fran and Wally, and one thing I’ll remember is she was always smiling and usually at the same time shaking her head at some shenanigans going on. They were the best, and are/will be deeply missed! Condolences to the many family and friends.

Fran was the very first person that I met when I first started working in Rennie 26 years ago. She was so friendly and kind, and I immediately felt comfortable and right at home. She will always have A place in my heart.
A better ambassador for Rennie could never be found.
I am so sorry for your loss. She was an angel on earth and will be with you forever. My deepest condolences to Darrin, Ryan, Ellen and Alison.

To Franny’s family, I offer my deepest condolences. We spent many years heading into Rennie for the mail and lunch at Franny’s and/or coffee with Franny. Hard to believe those days have to come to an end. Just last week I ordered a Franny’s burger. Still good and a good memory. Franny welcomed everyone as if they were family and that was appreciated. Rest in peace dear lady.
