1944 ~ 2015
On July 2, with her family by her side, Evelyn gave up her battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at age 70.
Left to remember her is her husband of 50 years Otto Seida, her daughter Tracey (Todd), her son Chris (Cynthia), grandchildren Rob and Hunter, sister Barbara, and many other family and friends.
Evelyn was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to parents Leonard and Jessie Shaw, who moved their family to a little white house on Broder Street in Regina soon after.
Evelyn met Otto at a high school dance, and married a couple of years later in 1964. They moved to Winnipeg in 1971 where they raised their family in East Kildonan.
Evelyn liked to try new things, and over her career, had many occupations. She first worked as a typesetter for a print shop, and then in the art department at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She then returned to school to pursue her dream of becoming a journalist, and graduated from the Creative Communications program at Red River College in 1988.
After graduation, Evelyn started writing for a few small newspapers, and eventually became the communications director for the Manitoba Society of Seniors. She left that position a few years later to pursue her dream of starting her own newspaper, which she named Vitality, a lifestyle journal for baby boomers.
After several years of publishing her paper, Evelyn opened a small art gallery that she named The Shaw Gallery on William Avenue in Winnipeg. Evelyn loved running her little gallery, and Otto often said that she was her own best customer.
Evelyn retired with Otto to the town of Pinawa, Manitoba, where they made many friends, especially in the Pinawa Lions Club, the Eastern Music Concert Association, and the Pinawa 50+ club.
It was Evelyn’s wish that her many family and friends be thanked for their kindness and generosity during her lifetime and illness. She also wanted to thank the nurses and staff at the Pinawa Hospital who were very good to her and her family during her days in palliative care.
Evelyn was very much loved, and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn’s memory to The Pinawa Lions Club, the Pinawa Health Auxiliary, or the charity of your choice.
Evelyn’s family would like to invite friends to celebrate her life at a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, Manitoba, with a reception to follow.

It is very hard to express with words the pain our hearts feel right now. The idea that Aunty Evelyn is not in this world anymore is difficult to accept! She is and will continue to be in my mind as one of the most welcoming persons that we have ever met, all we could see in her face were smiles and open arms to express her affection. God bless her soul and receives her in his kingdom!
Our sincere condolences to her partner on happiness Otto, to her children Tracy and Chris, her and grandchildren.

Her warm heart, big hugs, smiling face, adventurous spirit and silly sense of humor will be missed so much. I always felt welcome and loved when I was in her presence.
There few people in life that have the gift of making you feel at home, even when you are far from those you spend your days with. Aunty Ev was one of the most genuine and generous people I’ve been privileged to know.
It’s hard to sum up in a few words, the impact that a person can make on your life, or the great memories that weave their way into our minds. I have so many wonderful, (as well as funny), memories of my “Favorite Aunt”. Yes, there are tears shed for your passing.. but many, many smiles for the time that has been spent, enjoying just living, and having shared our journey and yours.
To Uncle Otto.. Our thoughts are with you. We love you both….

Heather and family and Warren and family send their condolences to you all. They remember the fun time we all had in Colorado in 1998. I also remember Ev from my childhood as my brother and I attended St. Matthew’s Anglican Church with the Shaw family. My sincere condolences to all; Ev will be fondly remembered. Sincerely, Marilyn Shaw

Otto, Tracey, Chris and family, I am so sorry to hear about Evelyn.
I got to know Evelyn when we were journalism students together at Red River College. She had such tremendous joy for life and was so much FUN to be around! Everyone loved Evelyn. She had such a kind heart, was so thoughtful toward others and had a really great sense of humour. I still remember her driving around in her little Volkswagen Beetle, wearing brightly coloured plastic sunglasses! Evelyn was such a great example of making the most of your life and following your dreams. She will always have a special place in my heart and I will miss her. Evelyn made the world a happier place (and now I am sure she is already sharing her great sense of humour up in heaven).
Take care, Brenda (Fleming) Fehr
