July 09, 1946 – April 05, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunty, Teacher and Friend.
Eunice, was fighting a silent battle for months that she was determined to win. She was stubborn till the end letting her family know she would be fine and saying “I’m not running out of time.” She was a kind, loving woman with a sense of humour and wit like no other. This held constant until the time of her passing.
Our family is beyond thankful for the wonderful care and compassion Eunice experienced during her time at the St. Boniface Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Mooney and his team of nurses who went above and beyond to make her last days as meaningful as possible. They thoroughly enjoyed her wit and feistiness throughout her time with them. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the Pine Falls Hospital team of doctors and nurses who were dedicated to providing Eunice with the initial care she needed.
For 30 plus years Eunice was a passionate English teacher. So many of her students have said her teaching went above and beyond the classroom and curriculum. She cared for her students as if they were her own children and pushed each of them to be the best version of themselves. She loved running into her students outside of school even years after retirement. This brought her so much joy to see how her students grew into wonderful adults. She loved to hear what they were up to in their lives. We are sure that all of her students would have a story to tell about her humour, her enthusiasm for learning, especially History and English and her dedication to their individual success both in school and life.
Eunice was a proud, supportive and loving grandmother. She loved her dog Schnoop, her books, watching basketball, hockey, and endless crosswords. Her granddaughters were always impressed that she used pen for her crosswords and never made mistakes. She would even receive calls from friends, colleagues, and students for crossword advice. It is safe to say that Eunice impacted many lives and was loved by more.
Waiting to greet her in heaven will be her parents Alex and Solange Skrumeda, her loving husband Fred, her brothers Allan and Wayne, and brothers-in-law Lawrence, David and Jim.
Left to grieve and miss her are her son Guy, daughter-in-law Robin, and her granddaughters Trinity (Trentan), Gemini, and Quincy. Her sister Louise Nault, sister-in-law Terry Skrumeda and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sisters-in-law Edna Pichor, Rita (Albert) Lamoureux and their families. Her dear friends, Darcy, Norma, Dennis, Brenda, and Julie; her goddaughter Becky and her sister Marnie. She will be loved and missed by so many of her colleagues, former students and lifelong friends.
A small interment ceremony has taken place for immediate family. A larger celebration of life will be held at a later date for all who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Our family finds comfort during this time knowing that one day, we will all meet again.

I was saddened to hear of your mom’s passing, Guy. As your beautifully written obituary stated, she was more than just a teacher. I will always remember her standing in her doorway at school, cup of coffee in her hand, daring someone to run down the hall (and God help those who did). I hear her heels clacking on the floor to this day and it makes me laugh; you knew when she was coming and you hoped it wasn’t for you.
She was an amazing force. I will always be thankful for her kindness and the strength when I lost my mother. I hope the knowledge that a lot of us are grieving with you and your family gives you some of that strength in return. The world is a little less interesting, a little less bright without her in it.

Your story of the coffee and watching out for students late for a class, taking a chance to run…hit home.
I was caught once
Such sad news…

My deepest condolences to the Cyr family,
Mrs.CYR was one of the best teachers I ever had the privilege of being a student to. She was strict but fair, she just didn’t teach English class she got you immersed into it. She will always have a special place in my heart and my memories. Rest in peace.

My condolences to all family and friends. She was a teacher until the end. She taught my neighbor and myself about gardening last spring. With her guidance, we build a garden next door at the apartment and we had fun watching our gardens grow. She did have a good sense of humor. We laughed at the excitement of signs of growth. We also giggled at sharing stories of our teaching days as we are all retired teachers. She was a beautiful lady and my blessings to all the family.

Guy, so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was my favourite teacher. She stuck her neck out for me so I could leave early before graduation to go into the military and I’ll never forget that. My two favourite memories of her was her reading Shakespeare to the class. The passion that she read it with made me actually understand what was being said! The other was seeing her hauling any of the boys (myself included) by the ear for not obeying one rule or another. I hope I speak for many students when I say the world has lost one amazing teacher and human being. Lots of love to you and your family.

My condolences go out to your family. I got to know both your parents. I was schnoops groomer and your Mom always made me laugh when she would call for his hair cut and I always said are u sure he really doesn’t have much hair left.
But twice a year he would get it cut no matter what. She will be missed by all that knew her.

My Thoughts and Prayers to Guy and Family.
Mrs. Cyr was the Best High School teacher a student could ask for. She was small but mighty even if she took your hat for wearing it in school or pulled your ear for running in the halls. She was the most loved and respected coolest teacher I had the honor of knowing.
Thank you Eunice for being a remarkable unforgettable human ❤

Eunice will be remembered by many as a dedicated teacher with a real love of the subject of High School English. She was also fun to go to lunch with. She had an enjoyable
and cynical sense of humor and she was greatly respected by teachers and students alike. She was “old school” in many ways. She will be missed.

I mostly remember Eunice from our Sunrise Singer days. She helped make a lot of great memories, and I often think of the great times our little group had. She will be missed by more people and in more ways than her family could ever think of.
Dion Houston
She made English interesting; I wish I could buzz by her one more time; wouldn’t mind that ear pull this time!

My favourite teacher hands down.
I had no idea she was sick, I sincerely had plans to ask if we could meet for coffee when this pandemic was over….

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I did not grow up in the area but Eunice and Fred where my neighbours for over 20 years. Always waving and smiling as we went buy.
Wanda (Hiebert) Bornn
I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs Cyr was my favourite teacher. She got us in grade 7 for home room and English. We came to her without any real language arts skills, like the basics of not even knowing nouns from verbs. She got us caught up and taught us a love of reading and writing essays. Through all this she was able to get the bratty kids wanting to behave while keeping us laughing. I think I will look up the “Incredible Journey” and read this again as it was the first novel I read in her class.
Bob Smith
So sorry for your loss Guy & Robin. If I had to name a teacher that I believe had an impact in my life, that wonderful person would have to be Mrs. Cyr. I must say, even the unpleasant ‘ear tugs’ put a smile on my face till this day. RIP Mrs Cyr…
Tim & Cindy Haverlock
Our heart felt condolences go out to Mrs. Cyr ‘s family and many friends.
Having Eunice as my amazing Grade 8 English Teacher, the most profound memory was her many sneak up from behind ear pinches in jest she gave me and the other guys when ever we misbehaved in class.
In later years after graduation, I always enjoyed running into Fred and Eunice somewhere out on the town catching up and having many many laughs.
You will be greatly missed !!

I am deeply saddened to hear of the Los of your beautiful Mom, Guy. Feisty is one of the best words to describe her for sure! I too, am one of many students that Mrs. Cyr showed compassion and grace to, and I have never forgotten her. I share stories about her to my children. There are few teachers that impacted my life the way your Mom did. She was such a vital, dynamic person and the world is definitely a more somber place without her in it. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you and your family at this sad time.

Our sincere condolences Guy, Robin & girls for your loss! She’ll always be remembered being full of life Hugs
Tom and Jan Paukovic
When my wife and I first came to Powerview to teach we were welcomed to the staff and community by Fred and Eunice. They hosted the first staff party we went to and it was a memorable night. As a rookie I was quickly put in my place by what was to become Powerview’s famous ear tugging English teacher. I always appreciated Eunices frank and to the point no nonsense approach to teaching and dealing with students and staff. I felt sorry for anyone who thought spelling didn’t count. Our condolences and prayers are extended to all family and friends.
Carol (Berthelette) Conroy
Mr. Paukovic and Jan, yes Spelling does count! Now I know why that had such an importance in my life!
Upon Mrs. Cyr passing away..I have been gone so long that I just thought my teachers would always be there when I came back to visit. I hope that makes sense. Nothing replaces the comfortable sense of familiarity and love from family and friends. It will always be there! ❤️
I also want to thank you for all the help and support you had given me, especially through my tough high school years. There were and are several wonderful teachers in and around the community of Powerview/ Pine Falls!!❤️

Our deepest Sympathy Guy, Robin & family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Your Mom was truly an exceptional teacher. She left a lasting impression on many students. Eunice was a strong independent woman. A inspiration to so many. RIP dear Eunice

I will always remember Eunice from high school English class. I was recently thinking of her as my daughter who is in Grade 3 had started reading chapter books in school and when she asked what my favourite class was in school I always say math but a close second was reading books in Mrs. Cyr’s class. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Our condolences to the family and especially Trinity, who is engaged to our youngest grandson and to marry this August. It is difficult to see them suffer but more so when there are no longer those hugs or loving advice. I am sure she will be missed by many. Our prayers to you and your family.
Carol (Berthelette) Conroy
Mrs. Cyr was an excellent and compassionate teacher. She was also a cousin to several people in the community, including me.
At the beginning of English class on Mondays, she would share stories with us. I remember the weekend she had gone to a Joe Cocker concert. She had such a fun time!
In high school, I was in a severe motor vehicle accident and my mother had passed away a year later. Eunice was there when I needed her for counseling and also help with homework 🙂 🙂 I will miss her wondrous laugh and beautiful smile. My condolences to her Family and the community.
