Elizabeth (Betty) Dueck Klassen

September 20, 1933 to March 30, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Klassen on Tuesday March 30, 2010 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach.

She is survived by eight sons and two daughters, Larry (Tina), Andy (Lise), Sharon (Garry Kehler), Richard (Mona), Curtis (Rose), George, Valerie (Armand Renz), Kelly (Cindy), Ernie, and Jeff (Diane); twenty-four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Elma Doerksen and three brothers Ed (Erna), Peter, and John (Carol); brother-in-law Jake (Helena) and sisters-in-law Anne Goertzen and Helen (Dan Blatz). She was predeceased by her husband Peter Klassen (1995), one son in infancy, one grandson, and two great-granddaughters.

Mom was born on September 20, 1933 in Mitchell, MB and she married Dad on August 17, 1952. After moving several times, they settled in New Bothwell on a hobby farm in 1969.

Mom was an avid gardener and bird watcher. Each year, she spent her summers working in her flower beds and vegetable garden and found much joy in working outdoors. She was a very resourceful woman and was famous for her homemade zweibach and her denim picnic blankets.

Mom loved to be around people and always enjoyed singing with her ladies group. She looked forward to her morning coffee time with people in the community and volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store. She was a woman of strong faith and was a wonderful friend. She would often end her day thinking of others and spent hours talking with her friends and family on the phone. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and acted as a grandma to many other children in the community.
We want to thank all the health care professionals that offered the best possible care and support for Mom.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday April 7 at 2pm at the New Bothwell Sommerfelder Mennonite Church, service conducted by New Hope Mennonite Church. Interment followed the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Condolences for the family may be offered at www.SoberingFuneralChapel.com.
