Eleanor Margaret Voss (nee Schmuland)

January 10, 1941 ~November 4, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Margaret Voss (nee Schmuland) on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the age of 82.

Left to cherish her memory is her lovingly husband Norman Voss of 64 years, her children, Wayne (Kim), Janet (Mark) and Sylvia (Duncan); precious grandchildren and great grandchildren; her siblings, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mom was born in Green Bay, Manitoba.  She was one of 12 children, so life was very busy on the farm.   The era that Mom was raised in taught her the importance of the finer things in life.  On September 19, 1959, she married the love of her life, Norman Voss.  From this day forward life would change and include all kinds of new adventures. Soon after, these adventures would include three children.  Being a Mom was something that she always cherished.

Mom for the most part was a stay home Mom.  She spent endless hours sewing dresses for us girls, baking, cooking and entertaining. However, once her children were well on their way, she decided to fulfill a passion of her own, and that was to become a hairdresser.  The family went thru many practise runs until she mastered this new profession.

Mom was proud of her husbands’ musical talents.  You could count on seeing her in the front row at all of Dads jamming gatherings.  Once Dad had retired from this talent, Mom would continue this legacy by daily playing recorded tapes of his music, playing them loud enough for all to hear.

Becoming a Nanny for Mom was something that she truly cherished. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her.  She loved them with all her heart (as she would say).  She has instilled in each of them so many values and beautiful memories that will have a special place in their hearts.

Our family events will never be the same without you Mom/Nanny.  Your conversations, your special phrases, your smile and giggle will be truly missed.  We are blessed to have all these memories to cherish.

We will miss you so much.  Rest in peace our special lady!

Eleanor’s family sincerely thanks the staff at the Beausejour Hospital and Eastgate Lodge.  Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour. Interment will follow in Green Bay Cemetery.

We are so sorry to hear of Eleanor’s passing. She was a vibrant and friendly woman and always had time for a quick catch up. She and my mom, Beverly were close and I know my mom appreciated her calls and friendship throughout the years before she passed. Condolences to Norman and family.

Auntie Eleanor was a very special Aunty…always smiling and enjoying life…she shared her smile with so many of us including my brothers Stanley and Frankie. Uncle Norman and Auntie Eleanor always welcomed everyone to their home no matter where they lived, with open arms and wonderful snacks and meals.
She will be greatly missed by all of us and our families…she was the “sparkle” at many of the family’s events. Our Mom Irene & Auntie Elsie & Myrtle (her older sisters) will be good company for her in heaven.

Our sincere sympathies to Uncle Norman and our Cousins Wayne, Sylvia, Janet and your families.

    God Bless!

Gerald, Frank, Stanley and our Families.

My deepest condolences to my best friend, Katrina on the passing of her Nanny. You were the first and only person I had met who also called their grandmother, “Nanny”. Over the next 26+ years, when you spoke of your Nanny, they were only ever stories of her love, generosity, and humour. I got to know her through you. Her legacy lives on as her qualities have carried on thru your mom, your sisters, and you. Luv u always n 4eva.

So sorry to hear of Eleanor passing. Some how, over the years, we always seemed to meet at Roy &
Toodie Briese Camp or at their home in Beausejour. Once the bottle was on the table, out came the
Guitars, Accordion & Banjo. Until recently, before Norm was sent to East Gate, We All had the
pleasure of Jamming with Norman at Beau Head Centre, namely the Beausejour Song composed
by Norman. Good Times were shared and Eleanor will be sorely missed. RIP

My condolence to Norman and the family. She was a friendly person with a smile every time I would see her. I have a special memory of her and our cousin Vangie. When I started school I did not speak or know any English, in fact our Grandmother would not hear of it, although in time she lost out. Our Grandmother lived with us. Because I could not understand anything the teacher was saying, I was seated between Eleanor and Vangie, all three of us in a double desk. I don’t remember how long that went on but mostly through them I learned to speak English.
Keep the memories of her in your hearts and minds.
