1938 ~ 2016

Edward Anton Smolarski, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at River East Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB. He was born on May 2, 1938 to Walter and Teenie (Roman) Smolarski.

Eddie spent most of his life in the country, living in Thalberg/Stead, MB until he retired to Beausejour, MB. Eddie was a man of many talents which covered an eclectic career. He was a farmer, construction worker, logger, bus driver, municipal councilor and overall jack of many trades.

Ed was a foundation in the community and enjoyed helping others. He was passionate about the outdoors, camping and loved spending time with his family, in particular his grandchildren.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Walter and Teenie.

Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Zonie; his children Myron (Teresa), Tammy (Terry), Anthony, and Christine (David); his grandchildren Cody, Samantha, Melissa, Conner, Nicholas, Joshua and Jordan; his brother Paul (Steffie), and numerous friends and family.

Ed’s family would like to thank the staff at River East Personal Care Home for the care and compassion they provided.

Divine Liturgy will be sung on Monday, August 8 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Beausejour, MB.  Interment will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Thalberg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB  R3C 4G2 or River East Personal Care Home, 1375 Molson Street, Winnipeg, MB  R2K 4K8.

I can still remember Uncle Ed and his 3 teen age nephews Glen,Greg and John sitting and talking about our million dollar money making ventures. Probably a couple of di bojas involved. Uncle Ed had such ideas, we had so much fun with him in our younger days.
Many stories to tell about Uncle Ed.

To the Smolarski Family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. May Uncle Eddie be flying with the angels. Zonie, Myron, Tammy, Anthony, Chrissy and Family, I mostly remember Eddie back in time on the farm or celebrations at Thalberg always a big smile and a story to tell . He touched many lives. Our deepest sympathy’s .
